1st Two blocks for a class I am taking

2 Attachment(s)
I am taking a class for a quilt called "Stitcher's Garden" from the Stitch Connection. It is a beautiful applique quilt and will make me learn to use some of the different feet and techniques that I have never taken the time to learn well enough to be comfortable with them. This weeks block we used the couching foot, the fringe foot, the wing needle, bobbin work and a selection of several of the stitches. It has taken me all day to make these to blocks. Can't believe it took so long, but I had to do a lot of practicing on the fringe foot and the bobbin work. Had never tried either one.

Your blocks are gorgeous! Stick with that class, it looks to be very interesting.

What a great class to expose you to all those techniques. I love what you have done so far. I have never tried couching or bobbin work and I don't even know what a wing needle and fringe foot are! But if your blocks are the result it sure looks like a lot of fun and there is nothing wrong with taking all day to make two blocks. They show all your effort and time taken.

Looks like it will be an awesome quilt when you are done :)

Really interesting blocks! You've done a great job! Now that is the kind of class I would like to take. There are so many feet I really don't know how to use, or ever what they are used for. I think you are going to be so very happy with that class...and the quilt!

Fabulous blocks and way to go learning new things with the feet you have. I am envious!

Pollytink 03-17-2013 07:25 PM

What a great idea! Love these two and hope you'll post the others as you go. These really show off the stitches and techniques you used. Sounds like a lot of fun!

Very beautiful blocks. I have never heard of some of the items you mentioned. Is this done on an embroidery sewing machine?

hudgoddess 03-18-2013 09:05 AM

Love it! I try to use some of the decorative stitches on my machine. I mean, someone went through all the trouble to program them in, right? It's hard for me on larger projects to keep the lengths all consistent. Did your class have any hints for that?

Canada Kate 03-18-2013 09:29 AM

Ooohhhh...so that's what some of the feet are for! I didn't realize that some were specifically for applique. I've been using my regular foot for the few times I've attempted it. Your work is lovely.

quiltingranny 03-18-2013 01:46 PM

Both blocks are BEAUTIFUL! Can't wait to see the finished quilt!!!!!

joyce888 03-18-2013 01:50 PM

Very nice. Exactly what I need to do with all the bells and whistles on my machine.
