Love your quilt. My plan/goal in 2012 is to learn applique
I would suggest taking a class at some point. It's one of those things that you can teach yourself, but it's difficult to teach yourself WELL (IMO). The different hints, techniques, and way to properly hold everything were a great part of taking the actual classes. And definitely work on something you like. My first class was a really abstract weird flower pattern and after I learned the basics, I gave up on the project itself... it's in the very back of the closet, not even on the UFO shelf

awesome quilt!! love your hand applique work, it looks perfect. Did you use embroidery thread for your applique stitching and if so, how many strands?
Just regular sewing thread, since I did it with machine. I used some Aurifil, some Mettler, some Connecting Threads... basically whichever color matched what I needed.

This is a beautiful quilt, so exquisitely executed and well-worth the time spent on it. It will surely be much loved.
