My DH took me and the kids to Lancaster Monday and Tuesday for a short vacation close to home. Plus, my son had to be in Gettysburg both days for a test. But we spent all afternoon Monday and Tuesday going through the quilt shops and buying fabric. :D My DH had a blast helping me pick out fabric for my quilt. I met some wonderful English and German ladies who were here for the quilt show over the weekend. (I missed it)

But if anyone is going to be going out to Lancaster, Zook's and Old Country Store are great. I went to a few others, but these 2 really impressed me with their selection and prices. As soon as I am finished using all this fabric I will be going back for more. It is worth the drive.

That is some great fabric. My favorite is the brown with flowers.

Beautiful fabric. Wish I was a little closer.

My DH is worse than me about fabric. He is great. He cuts all my pieces out and I sew. Last night we stayed up cutting out moms quilt pieces and I had a chance to start piecing it.

The "Holly Hobby" is going to be made into a lap quilt for my sister. When we were kids my mom decorated our entire bedroom in it. I thought she would get a kick out of it.

Pretty colors!
I just want to pet it all!

How fun! Gorgeous material!

I think there's gonna be a lot of women wishing their husband had your husband's enthusiasm.

I just wish I could go on a road trip to Lancaster.
I love the Holly Hobbie bundle. I have one bundle that I got at walmart before the fabric died, but not enough to make a quilt,at least I know that it's not impossable to find more. Thanks for sharing.

Fantastic!! I keep promising myself a trip to Lancaster but I just keep getting sidetracked.

Love the fabric. I'll keep those places on my "list" to visit.

Mom2Three, does your husband provide training for the rest of us who wish our sweeties could be as interested in quilting and cutting as yours?

Wow!! Trevor likes watching me sew and make the quilts and he has made some great comments, but he likes the fact that I can do the work and he to admire. He does support my habit so thats a great thing!!

I've been to Zook's and just love to shop there. Great fabric and can't wait to see the quilts that you make. I live about 110 miles west of Lancaster.

Tracy I see that you are from Fulton Co. I am from Bedford Co.

Oh...I'm just sooo jealous! TN. is just a little to far to drive ...but I can wish!

mom2three 04-03-2008 03:13 PM

Iquilt, we are neighbors. :D You are just over the mountain from me.

I really enjoyed our time there. I can't wait to go back, but I have to produce some quilts out of this pile first. I am teaching my daughter to paper piece, so that should help use up some of it. :P

Iquilt,
We must be very close to each other because I am in Cambria County, just about 7 miles from the Bedford county line at Blue Knob and about 10 miles from the Blair county line. Have you ever been to Surplus City??? I went a few times, loved the selection, loved the drive out there, but was expecting a little bit lower prices. I got some really cute nursery panels out there at a deep discount ($2 each) because they were "soiled" and sold as is but I washed them before I began and there was nothing wrong with them after that. They have some odd notions out there, too. Do you craft at all? I got those "Lancaster" AKA "Rusty" stars cheap there and finished them how I wanted them. I bought one for each member of the family and have it on the porch hanging. Are there any places in Bedford county that I am missing out on? Seeing all that stash from Lancaster almost makes me miss being there. (Note- ALMOST)

I've never been to Surplus City. The lady up in McConnellsburg who has the craft shop told me about it. I have yet to get out there. I only get out to Bedford maybe 2 times a year even though it is only 15 miles up 70. We always shop in Chambersburg, Waynesboro, or Hagerstown.

I can tell you one place I go to about twice a month for quilting mofits and other things. If you take 16 over to Greencastle. Turn right at the light on 11(next to Hardees), there is a place out there called Marians. She has some great selections. You have to look for it because I still shoot past it if I'm not paying attention. There is a bunch of those kid play houses/castles (handmade) sitting out front and her shop is around the back of the house in the basement. I could not believe the selection of fabric she has. Everyone is very friendly and helpful too. If you do go, check out her flat goods on the table in front and out front of her shop. I went by there yesterday and bought a ton of them for the backs of my quilts. (not to mention the ones I bought a couple of weeks ago when they were 2.00 a yard.)

Hey, sorry I haven't replied but have been away from the computer for a few days- I did get the "froggy" girl quilt done for my old highschool friend whom I work with. I will show you all that it really didn't stay Froggy- the idea hit me because she told me they didn't do the nursery like she had originally planned- she went all out PeptoBismol pink so I thought that this would be a bit of both worlds....
