here are the 2 mock cathedral windows i made for another cousin's grandkids for xmas.
one has a quilted border top and bottom. it needed to be a little longer and i didn't have time to make 5 more circle sandwiches  .
the stripe one i have posted before when it was a wip.

Pretty nana. I have this one on my to do list for maybe this year. I bought one of those circle attachmnets...did you use one of those?

Bevanger 12-23-2008 06:23 AM

Very Nice!! I think I'm going to have to do one soon.

SaraSewing 12-23-2008 06:55 AM

They are pretty cool. Did you put batting between the circles?

I just found myself staring at each panel. What interesting fabrics. I really love the quilts. They are wonderful and I think your cousin's grandkids are going to be very happy with them!

Those are very pretty - haven't done that pattern yet.

sewjoyce 12-23-2008 03:25 PM

Thanks Izzy!! The pattern, "Simply Orange-Peel", I have seen done with batting and sewn by machine using a "circular foot". (I have a Bernina.) Just put the batting on the bottom as you sew your circle...

I just love these patterns and can't wait to start one --- sigh --- sew much fabric, sew little time

hi thatnks all for looking at the mock cathedral window.
no circle attachment. i just found a round thing in my kitchen, in this case the lid for an old tupperware pie saver. drew the circle cut it out and sewed.
i used the cheapest flannel i could find, $1.oo per yard at wallyworld, prewashed of course, instead of batting. they are pretty easy but these were bigger than the baby size i usually make. but no big deal.
if you do a search on this web site there are instructions on how to do this pattern.
use whatever size circle you wish.

Jim's Gem 12-23-2008 06:53 PM

Very pretty. Have not tried that one yet either

I love your versions Nana. I just used a plate and put a tiny bit of 'bluetack' on the lip to stop it slipping and used a rotary cutter to whip around it...

Flannel on the inside is a great idea. Flannel bed sheets are usually pretty cheap in January/February - so I might look for some to use for insides. I've thought of making one of bedspread weight (very light) for summer use; maybe pretty florals. . .

I had some flannel sheets I just adored and when I got a bigger bed, I saved them and they were my daughter's favorite sheets. Now I'm spoiled because if my sheets aren't soft and comfy, I don't use them.
