I have question........When you do the binding to you put one color all way around or do use white on the white or light side and dark on the dark side. I'm using dark binding all way around. Hmmmmm

quiltinmama64 11-19-2010 09:51 AM

I love them both. I had never seen one like that until I joined this board. Would love to do something like that myself. Maybe someday.

IBQUILTIN 11-19-2010 09:55 AM

Both are great, I especially like the browns

I got the book and ruler several years ago at a show in San Antonio... but for the life of me, I can look at the book and the ruler ALL DAY and still not see what is adapted to make this table runner. I really would like to make my daughter one for Christmas. The book is purple with a bargello sort of butterfly on the cover. Can anyone HELP???? Thanks!

I don't think I could help, I had quite a time understanding the pattern I did buy the first time, not so good at adapting patterns yet.

I didn't bind mine, I just did what the pattern said and did it by putting the right sides together, sewing around it, leaving a small space to flip it right side out (I think that is called envelope style? or is that what "birthing" means?)

marmalade 11-19-2010 11:14 AM

Very nice - but they look difficult to make.

Alfie 11-19-2010 12:43 PM

I see guess I didn't look a that part close enough DUH. Pattern is a little confusing but once I figured it out it really isn't that bad. Just have to be very careful cutting it out.

I'm glad to hear others say that about the pattern, I thought it was just me but yes, it does seem confusing and once you get it, its amazing how easy it is!

I took the measurements to my local hardware store and had them cut a piece of plexiglass to the size. Then I took the stick on ruler tape that comes in a roll and and put a piece of that down the middle starting at the beginning of a one inch mark so that it would be accurate. I did this because I didn't find the ruler at a price I wanted to spend. It cost me less than $4 to make.

debbiewi 11-19-2010 03:42 PM

Omaof Four - where did you get the measurements?

malega 11-19-2010 04:00 PM

That is so cool.

OmaForFour 11-19-2010 04:47 PM

I went back and researched it again. I got the measurements here from someone called Magpie who posted it in answer to someone else's question I guess. I got it through googling. Anyway, it is:

22.5 inches long. 1 inch wide at one end and 4.78 wide at the other end. This includes the 1/4 inch seam allowance.

I am going to try to attach a pic of the markings so that you can see what is on the original ruler in addition to the strip of tape like I put on mine.

Not sure if either of these will appear but am giving it a try. If not, PM me with you email address and I will see what I can do that way.

These are so cool. What is your method for constructing these?

I just bought this pattern. your look good . I see what said about light color first. We learn from each others.

ladybalcom 11-19-2010 07:26 PM

what is the name of pattern? very nice job.

OmaForFour 11-19-2010 07:36 PM

There is a pattern called spicey spiral that needs to be followed. The ruler is cut out of plexiglass at my local hardware store according to the dimensions I gave earlier. I put a piece of stick on tape measure down the center. I put that pic of the real ruler in there so that you could see the two X dimensions that were placed on it for where they should go. You will need to make these with some other method. I recommend using something that would scratch the line into the plexiglass.

Some people have made the ruler by using heavy paper and making a circle. They have folded it into 8 pie shaped pieces. One piece would be the wedge. I believe that way it might be a 9 degree wedge. I didn't like the idea that the paper would be so bendable.

I bet the ruler is hard to find

Cybrarian 11-20-2010 01:37 PM

I just bought this pattern and the fabric at a great little shop in Kissimmee FL. Planned to use a coupon to get the ruler at Joanns. So which is better the 9 or 10 inch? My pattern calls for the 9.

Now I'm intrigued are you using the wedge ruler and making up your own pattern or using one you bought or found? I have the table runner pattern a d I can see where it could make an awesome tree skirt! Please let us all know.

Cute.

Sorrelpen 11-22-2010 05:40 PM

Me too. I would love to find the pattern, guess I've been looking in the wrong place. Where can I find one (pattern).
