That is beautiful. No need to go to the Paducah Quilt Show to see quilts. The best ones are right here!
Beautiful workmanship. I like how you quilted one brown dot in each diamond on the border. Great job.

That is beautiful--a keepsake!!
Fantastic! And I love the scallops! I just learned how to do those and yours look much better than mine. They are DEEP too! Hmmmm, that would have been scary for me.
I just love this little quilt, you did a great job on it! |
cute

Chay, It's a beautiful baby quilt. Thanks for sharing. Eiltcoq.

I think the binding alone would have taken me 2 years. Fantastic quilt! There is one lucky baby that will get that one.
Thanks for all the kind words. I did FMQ around the appliques and used my walking foot to do the straight line stitching on the border. I learned a lot from this quilt: scalloped borders are kind of a pain but they add a lot to the overall design, next time I would use MistyFuse (softer than Steam a Seam 2) or window pane the appliques, they are too stiff, minky is way easier to use than I thought. I also learned that once you start out with tiny stippling you have to stick with it all the way. Next time I would use bigger stippling from the get-go.

Very cute!! Love the scalloped edges
A really nice neat quilt.

You did a great job on this quilt. What is your tip to doing such a beautiful job on the scalloped binding? Mine I have such an awful time once I get into the ditch of the binding.
Is that a little red heart that I see in the upper left hand corner?! It's a beautiful quilt. I'm glad for your feeling of accomplishment - well deserved!
Adoreable! Cute! Great baby quilt. Nice job.
Do you have any tips for FMQ with Minky? How did you keep it from stretching and bunching? I have used it.....love the feel, but have been challenged when quilting it.....
That is absolutely beautiful!
ADORABLE.....beautifully done!!

Charhend, these were the first scallops I ever did and I found them to be a pistol. My pattern said to stop sewing at the inner point, cut the thread, turn the quilt and start sewing again the other way. That just did not work for me. I sewed to the inner point and then using my knee lift, stiletto, and fingers I kind of eased around the corner, stuffing the fabric behind the needle as I turned the corner. A little bit of under-the-breath cursing helped. I cut the binding on the bias and hand-stitched it using a ladder stitch. At each inner point I made kind of a pleat. It took a long time. I probably won't be doing a lot of scallops in the future.
Wendiq, I spray-basted and also pinned. I was kind of surprised that the minky behaved, I really didn't have any problems with it except that the weight of the quilt was heavier. I just bunched everything around in a puddle as I quilted. Oh, I guess one tip is that I did straight-line quilting both vertically and horizontally on the sashing to start. That kind of held everything in place. Then I did the FMQ around the appliques. Then I did the border using my walking foot and sewing diagonally between the polka dots. I did not cut out the scallops until after all the border quilting was done. |
Oh my gosh! That is adorable!!!
