2013-2014 Round Robin

1 Attachment(s)
Six of us here on the board...DragonflyNana, Elisabrat, Lestrong601, Nexxus831, TheMamaHouser, and Jaba have agreed to do a round robin. This thread will be where we post pictures of our progress for everyone to see. We should be done around July 2014 and we will post our finished quilts too.

I look forward to working with these funny and talented ladies-several of whom are already mailing their centers out for the first round!

I will start with mine - I can't wait to see what this group does with it. I hope everyone enjoys our posts as we embark on this quilty journey.

This is the "Storm at Sea" pattern. I used the resources (foundations and color-planning worksheets) at http://www.generations-quilt-pattern...sea-quilt.html

The center currently measures 21 3/8" square.

I am hoping to have an entirely red & white quilt when we're finished.

It is certainly hard to pick a favorite!! I'll be watching this post to see how each one progresses!

Elisabrat 06-19-2013 03:19 AM

Mine is in the works be next week before I can post it. I think they are going to be fun quilts to work with all the different color palates and styles of blocks will make for a creative journey to be sure. You guys are FAST!

orangeroom 06-19-2013 03:25 AM

So far they are all beautiful! I love the movement in the storm at sea! Jaba, those are my fav colors. The dragon flies remind me when our son and we were catching them a couple of years ago at a local park. Lestrong, nice strong but soft block. The butterflies make it soft and the diamonds remind me of strength!

gabeway 06-19-2013 04:02 AM

All are so pretty. I am partial to florals and pink so really like that one. Red/white is on my list to do so I really like that one, and I like birds and blue so really like that one. Shoot, they are all so pretty. Can't wait to see the rounds and maybe get some new ideas.

We are off to a rousing start. Such lovely centers - these are going to be a treat to work on.

I can hardly wait to see what Elisabrat and Nexxus831 are going to create.

This will be a very entertaining thread to follow; the starts are wonderful so far. I saw several I'd love to work on if I were participating. It will be such fun to see these each round for the next year! I hope you will make the subject slap-your-face-obvious so we can ALL find it each time!!

The only round-robin I really knew of was in tennis! I think I will learn lots of new things following your thread throughout the round-robin. Can't wait to see as all progress... exciting for a somewhat new quilter...

It's in my head, no specific block just made it up. Kind of like flying by the seat of your pants....and I seem to do that occasionally.

Dragonfly Nana 06-19-2013 06:06 PM

It looked more like a pineapple block around a 4 patch to me.

Dragonfly Nana 06-19-2013 06:07 PM

Thanks Jan. We will be using this same thread to post our progress pictures through the year. Subscribe to it and then you will know when we post stuff.

Elisabrat 06-20-2013 05:00 AM

Jaba I didn't know you made that block up! wow. Mine is going to be made up too lol I started with a 10" bear in the middle (printed fabric) framed it with blue texas bluebell fabric now I am thinking I am either going bear paws in the four outer corners and another solid strip between OR a mini checkerboard pattern around it. Mine is blue's, browns, and creams with a touch of green ok too I think. I am hoping to go for a woods/lodge look to it? its for the DH and well out of about 40 choices on the table he grabbed the blue flowers and the bears so .. ok I will go with it. next week it should be posted. We all are going to have so much fun. the variety of colors and styles will keep everyone entertained I think.

I guess it is, I just really started sewing and rotating the 4 blocks to have the floral in the middle. Never made one like this before, but decided I liked it whatever it is.

Dragonfly Nana 06-20-2013 08:20 AM

Jan - no matter it "name" it is beautiful and will be fun to work on.

Linda - I can't wait to see the bears and bluebells together. I think we are going to have fun with yours too. So many things you can do that give a "lodge" feel. Bear paw, maple leaf, pine tree, and acorn blocks all come to mind. Don't forget the lovely woodsy colors.

Helen S 06-20-2013 11:36 AM

It's a beautiful block! Can't wait to see all the rest of them.

Dragonfly Nana 06-20-2013 04:15 PM

Jan I received you beautiful center today and I just pulled two fabrics that will go well with it. Don't have a clue what I am going to make my round yet but that will come to me.

Elisabrat 06-20-2013 04:35 PM

I can't wait to sit down and sew again!! I am feeling ahh now I am the last one on the train to finish! you guys are all so speedy quick I can see five sitting on my door step to finish before I even unpack! I think the hardest part is while I am NO where near as speedy as Jan I am rarely the last one out the gates.. well it will be all good in maybe .. five days. I figure it takes ten times longer to pack than it takes to unpack your things. lots more fun too :) and soon my table will be cluttered with cutting tools and fabric and ME!

jaba 06-20-2013 05:17 PM

AAH Brat, you'll be caught up in no time, no worries. Paula I'm sure you'll come up with something and if by chance someone on any round needs more of my fabric I can send it to you.

Dragonfly Nana 06-20-2013 06:50 PM

Thanks for the confidence Jan. What would you think about the addition of the darker pink from the flowers and a lighter green - both with the gold accents from your main fabric?

jaba 06-20-2013 06:57 PM

I think that would be fabulous!! Seriously, whatever looks good to you but really do think it would be great! I thought with that fabric it could be the lights and darks of the colors and maybe would be easier as far as matching shades.

Ok here is my block that I finished today. I can't wait to see the finished product.

Dragonfly Nana 06-21-2013 02:56 AM

That is gorgeous. I have seen Kelly's plan for this round and it is going to be great.

All of you beautiful blocks are making me think I should make a different center.

Nexxus831 06-21-2013 07:45 PM

NOOOOOOOOOO don't do that we have plans in mind for your block already. Mom and I have been talking about it all day.

Opinions please - this is my idea for Jan's gorgeous center. While the picture is lousey (the top fabric is really a raspberry that matches a color in her black fabric) I hope you will be able to see the "flower" feel I was going for.

Elisabrat 06-26-2013 01:31 PM

I really like that! I am thinking Jan is going to love it too! I am home now in Wyoming so send your center to me! Its a warm muggy day and the breeze is blowing, birds chirping and I am 90 percent unpacked on things I can unpack! a few holiday box's in the corner and I am DONE. now to collapse all those box's.. oh honey....
