Fireman's Prayer
When I am called to duty,
God whenever flames may rage
Give me the strength to save some life
Whatever be its age.
Help me to embrace a little child
before it's too late,
or some older person from the horror of that fate.
Enable me to be alert and hear the weakest shout.
And quickly and efficienctly to put the fire out.
I want to fill my calling and give the best in me,
to guard my neighbor and protect his property.
And if according to your will, I have to lose my life.
Please bless with Your protecting hand, my children & my wife.

WOW what a wonderful prayer quilt. Some one will love and enjoy it. My husband was a fire fighter(shouldn't say was)
it gets in their blood and they are always fire fighters. we worked with the wild land fire fighters for a long time.
this is such a meaningful tribute . thanks for sharing.

Inspirational. My husband was a volunteer firefighter for over 35 yrs. Can't do it anymore due to a heart problem. This is awesome. Now you have me thinking I should do one for his last and favorite firehouse. You did a great job.

wraez 02-07-2013 09:16 AM

This should raise lots of $ ..! Firefighters and families will have a heartfelt response to this quilt. My dd works in a fire dept for the city (she is not a firefighter) and she thinks this is great!

Quilter 65 02-07-2013 10:05 AM

Your quilt is beautiful It brought tears to my eyes, because we all owe so much to our firefighters. Our little town in CT has an all-volunteer fire department, and they never have trouble raising money in their annual fundraising quest. We know how much they mean to us!

Grandma Peg 02-07-2013 10:52 AM

Your quilt turned out great and for a good cause.

Wow, I'm in awe. That is such a heart warming quilt. I'm not good a putting on pictures but sure enjoy looking at others. I just finished a quilt for veterans. If anyone is interested in making some to give they are so in need. I do it through The Twilight Brigade. It is a group of volenteers that makes sure no veteran dies alone. They have never had a quilt donated to them before I sent mine so if you feel the love try it. Tell Jill Cece sent you. [email protected].

My daddy who we lost five years ago was a captain of his local fire department for over 30 years. What a glorious quilt!

JBeamer 02-07-2013 02:34 PM

Brought tears to my eyes. Firemen and women are so special. Heroes everyday, not everyday heroes. Thanks to them and to you for raising money for them to be able to work more safely.

My Aunt & others met at our church for as many years as I can remember..all their quilts were tied/knotted.Their quilts were beautiful & appreciated, so I did not have a problem tying this one.To me, it feels like love. Real quilting would have been beautiful! I have to work on that. Thanks for your critique.

For my money you are a true quilter. I'm sorry some else felt your quilt needed something more. I thought it is perfect the way it is. As I look at it the love in the quilt stands out more than anything else.

drivingmsginger 02-07-2013 04:01 PM

As the daughter of a fire dept. captain and a quilter, I love it. It's beautiful! Good luck!

MargeD 02-07-2013 05:05 PM

What a very special quilt. Nice job.

Poodles 02-07-2013 05:12 PM

Loved your quilt. I would like to be able to do one that looked like yours does.

JudyJenings 02-07-2013 05:47 PM

What a beautiful job you did and I know it will be greatly appreciated by the person who gets it in the auction. I grew up in Cressona and my father was a member of the local fire companies, so I can appreciate your effort, and know that the fire companies will put the monies to good use.

Quiltaddiction 02-07-2013 06:13 PM

That is just an AWESOME quilt. What a wonderful job you have done on it. I hope you raise loads of money for it.

Ellageo 02-07-2013 06:37 PM

Small world isn't it? Do you still have family here? I first practiced on a smaller piece, and will be making that into a wall hanging. It actually got pretty good because of the good advice I received from this site. This year Schuylkill Haven will be hosting the 'Sch County Firemens Convention" & I thought perhaps I would give the wall hanging to them , hopefully to raise a little money to defray costs of hosting that . .

Yes, my Mom still lives in the house we all grew up in. I get home about four times a year. Miss the region, but have very fond memories of the Firemen's Conventions and the parades. I am sure Sch, Haven would LOVE the wall hanging. That is the wonderful thing of growing up in the Skook, seems the folks really appreciate the effort someone like yourself, has put into a project. Have found that not many regions of the country are quite like our region.

I love it very original and well done!!

charmin079 07-28-2013 02:18 PM

This quilt is outstanding!!! I was wondering if you would consider doing one similar to this to do as a raffle or silent auction to benefit the 19 Granite Mountain Hotshots who lost their lives batteling the Yarnell Hill Fire 6/30/13? If it is something you are interested in please contact me and we can discuss some things. I could help with the cost but I am just learning to quilt so something like this is way beyond my ability. Thanks Lisa [email protected]
