2020 Guild's Ugly fabric challenge Reveal
 

Our guild's 2020 President's Mixed Media/color challenge reveal was in Oct.

In the photo, the floral and gold fabric were the ugly fabrics or colors least used in quilts. The shiny fabrics green and white were the mixed media. We had to use half of the gold fat quarter and half the ugly floral in 4 different places. I had fun fussy cutting bird feathers and rabbit fur with the floral fabric. The gold fabric is in various places. I had fun free-motion quilting the wind and the grass and thread painted over the applique to hold it in place.

I have to laugh? I adore cheddar fabric and I even have some of the floral. So funny how one person’s pleasure is another person’s nightmare! Your quilt is just gorgeous and you are so creative.

Thank you! The tree is made from an upholstery fabric and is actually soft. The woven fabric didn't show the free-motion quilting, so I added cork ribbon in places to make it look more like tree bark.

Are you ready to challenge yourself with using a fabric you dislike? Try putting it with fabric you love and then use a thread color to thread paint or quilt designs over it...in my case it was the birds and rabbit.
