2nd quilt top

I have my second quilt top sewed together. This was pretty challenging for me. It is Storm at Sea on point. I love to weave point twills so when I read that quilts could be turned on point, I wanted to try it. Some of the points don't connect very well. I had to figure out the size of the pieces for the smallest square in square and I had never done something like that. The size was a little off but over all I am happy. I have to still do the borders, I am thinking of narrow yellow border next to the quilt and a dark blue large border to finish it off.

This will be a wall hanging in my guest room. I am supposed to be designing the curtains to weave for that room but I tripped and fell down the quilting rabbit-hole :D Wish me luck on the qulting part of this. My first quilt was just 16" square and this is quite bigger and more intricate.

Very nice. Is that an antique candle wicking spread it sits on?

Love the 'Storm at Sea" pattern and anxious to see it finished. I too have to ask about your spread. It is beautiful.

It is a commercially made spread, my mom gave it to me in the early 80's so I guess it is getting to be an antique. I just love it, it is my favorite.

Machine quilting. I can barely thread a needle for hand sewing much less hand quilt. I am in awe of hand quilters, such skill blows me away.

I love how many people are interested in my old bedspread. I thought that I was the only one around who likes something like that vs. a comforter. I have always loved chenille bedspreads, I think they look good with all styles of decorating. My mom gave me mine back in the early 80's and I have used it non-stop since then and it has just held up beautifully.

Good job figuring out how to set it on point. Your piecing looks good. Can't wait to see it quilted.

carolynjo 05-15-2017 12:23 PM

Isn't it wonderful when our inner vision works out the way you thought it would? Pretty quilt.

MargeD 05-15-2017 12:59 PM

Very pretty quilt. You did a great job, that's not an easy quilt, I made one years ago, however, I worked on it with another quilter and our 1/4" didn't exactly match, but it was still a beautiful quilt. We did make quite a bit of money for the church as it was a raffle quilt. Nice job.

Looks fantastic.

Storm at Sea is not something many people would attempt as a 2nd quilt! Very good job!

I guess that is the advantage of not knowing better, just dive right in. That is the way I am with my fiber pursuits, my first floor loom was 46", 8-shaft with double back beams! LOL I had no idea what I was doing but I do now. That is how I am looking at quilting - lots of straight 1/4" seams.

Grandma Peg 05-16-2017 07:31 PM

Very nice quilt.

I have finished Storm at Sea and have it hanging. Overall I am pretty happy with it. It is not as finely quilted and pieced as quilts that I have seen on this site, but for my second attempt, I am happy. I was not sure how to quilt the borders so I used 2 needles in my 401a and one of the built-in decorative stitches. This was fun and challenging and it felt just huge while quilting it.

Now to finish weaving the 9 yard warp I put on one of my looms for curtains and my guest room is pretty much finished.

osewme 06-13-2017 01:52 PM

That turned out soooo pretty. I love the Storm at Sea pattern. I've never made one but love all the ones I've seen. I really like the design with the point at the bottom. Gives it the "banner" look & lovely for the room wall hanging.

QuiltnNan 06-13-2017 03:50 PM

a great finish
