I went crawling through the local flea market this morning, looking for old quilts and found 3 that came home with me. I just like to collect them. :D All were hand quilted.

This first one is my favorite, and was the most expensive at $35. But I thought it was worth it.

This next one has a couple of blocks that have some material that is degraded, but overall still a very pretty quilt. It was $27.

And this last one is in poor condition (has holes all the way through it), but it was priced right at $5. :D I don't know if I'll try to repair it or what. But I couldn't leave it laying there at that price.

Nice! I think it was worth $35.

Do you have any new quilts in the works? How about the longarm - get it yet? Inquiring minds want to know! :)

What a great find. You could use parts of the $5 to repair other quilts of that vintage. Or make a tablerunner or smaller lap quilt from the good parts.

PurpleBecca 04-24-2010 10:34 AM

All so lovely. Wish I could come across a bargain like that!!!

amma 04-24-2010 10:45 AM

All three of your finds are beautiful :D:D:D

MaryStoaks 04-24-2010 10:51 AM

Love them! The old prints are wonderful to look at.

RedGarnet222 04-24-2010 11:17 AM

Nice work eddie.
I love the old qults you found. I know the hand quilted old quilts are irresistible. I love to look at thier work and the fabric are so neat. It sure speaks of a gentler time of life.

I inherited a few and gave them to other members of the family. I felt since I am the only one in the family who quilts, it would be wrong to hoard them to myself. My favorite was a very southern quilt that had a cheddar colored background that set tiny nine patches. Very scrappy and fun. I gave it to my favorite brother.

There were a few others I gave away, but, I kept a baskets one my mom gave me while she was alive. (I am not sure where she got it) And a hand quilted dresden plate with scalloped edges from a lady in north carolina mom bought while on vacation many years ago.

I love older quilts, I often wonder what the person was like that made them and also who cuddled under them. My mind just gets lost in history. What a great find.

beautiful quilts!

pollyjvan9 04-24-2010 12:09 PM

Great quilts, even the holey one!

Riley 04-24-2010 01:32 PM

These are wonderful quilts! The last one has lovely quilting on it, plainly visible in the dark areas.

And did you notice...the maker was so frugal (or used up what she had?) that she pieced a couple of those red/white plaid squares to finish out her block?

Thank you for sharing your find, enjoyed the look!

I pulled out some fabrics for a 1930s repro quilt last night. Getting ready to start on it.

The longarm should be here in about 3 weeks or so. Hard to be patient! :D

jacquemoe 04-24-2010 03:03 PM

How excited you must be. Just wait until you get to start playing with the longarm. Please, take pics and post your first practicing and then 6 months from now post some more. You will be surprised at the difference. I'm happy for you so now I'm going to go play since it's been a long time since I've done anything but pantographs. I need practice.

Can't wait to see your next creation. I'm envious you're getting a longarm...I bet it's hard to be patient...I'd be going crazy!

I like the quilts and I think I like the $5 one the most. It looks snuggly, like it was someones sleeping blanket. Well loved and well used.

sarahelloyd 04-24-2010 03:35 PM

what treasure, we just don't get really old quilts here, any that are about are snapped up by dealers/collectors at prices that are just daft ie £100's.

craftybear 04-24-2010 05:27 PM

Wow, thanks for sharing!

littlehud 04-25-2010 06:20 AM

Skyqueen30094 04-25-2010 06:35 AM

CarrieAnne 04-25-2010 06:39 AM

ann clare 04-28-2010 01:26 PM

You are a great shopper. Enjoy!

jljack 04-28-2010 01:52 PM

You're like me...I can't stand to think they will be discarded. If you decide to cut up the last one, I'll take the block with the pink/black print and blue plaid!!! It sings to me!! LOL Seriously tho', if you do........

annieshane 04-28-2010 01:59 PM

Sure don't blame you...could not have passed up those "bargains" either. You did good!!!

dizzy 04-28-2010 02:02 PM

rootyr 04-28-2010 02:51 PM

Great quilts!

Jingle 04-30-2010 11:32 AM

Beautiful quilts you found, I would leave them as is, but, your choice as to what you do.

Good luck getting the long arm and good for you.

thismomquilts 04-30-2010 12:00 PM

I love them all. Four of us went shopping last Saturday - went to one antique store - three quilts there - one came home with us - not me :( - wish I'd gotten the other two - they were only $9 and $15 - not bad shape. The one that came home was only $10 and washed up beautifully!!

Sheila Elaine 04-30-2010 02:48 PM

Great finds & wonderful prices. Roaming flea markets is such fun.

kd124 05-01-2010 11:20 PM

Great finds.

Spectacular finds.

craftybear 05-19-2010 09:34 PM

awesome

earthwalker 05-19-2010 10:14 PM

Excellent finds Eddie. As in the UK, here in Australia, they are very seldom seen, haven't even found one while antiquing. Even if such quilts were around, we would certainly be paying in the hundreds for them.

rootyr 05-20-2010 01:48 AM

What a find!

mygirl66 05-20-2010 02:58 AM

reneebobby 05-20-2010 03:06 AM
