Here are some pics of the last 3 of 7 quilts that I just finished for a customer. The first two shown below were made from all polyester fabrics and were HEAVY. And STETCHY! It was like trying to quilt Jell-o. :shock: But I made it through it. :D They were all 3 pieced long ago by the customer's grandmother and she wanted them quilted to give as Christmas presents. I'm glad to finally be through with all of these, and those polyester ones were certainly a learning experience!

They look great. I have a poly quilt that was made by my Aunt for me. She used old clothing from my Grandmother. No batting and is tied. Yes, they are heavy but I love it. They are also very warm. Does this mean you won't do poly quilts anymore? I think you did a great job on them :thumbup:

It's funny you mention the clothing thing, this customer said the same thing - she remembers her grandmother having clothes made from those same fabrics. :) The polyester was o.k. after I got the hang of it and understood how it wanted to play. Some of them were much easier to quilt over than others, so I just had to take it slower when quilting those ones.

I have a small lap quilt of polyesters that my Mother made & quilted using beautiful hand embroidered designs between the blocks; I treasure it & keep it in the car for a picnic blanket because it is so washable.

They all look fantastic. When I started quilting many, many years ago, we were using 50/50 fabric--half cotton and half polyester. I kind of liked it. It had all the good of cotton, and did not wrinkle. But pure polyester would be a nightmare--and probably make for a very hot quilt!

Nice job! I take the easy way out and tie the darn stuff!

This post gave me the giggles because I remembered something that happened a few years ago. I had some quilters remark to me "you are not really a quilter if you use poly knits".

I hate to admit it, but my decidedly unChristian response was " you are not really a quilter till you can make a quilt with this stuff that stretches and creeps! Cotton is SO easy!" :>)

Well, you certainly did a great job! My grandmother has several of these quilts pieced by her or my grandfather's aunts from pieces of clothing. These quilts are indestructible! They look the same now as they did when I was a kid (when they were probably already 30+ years old!) and they functioned as "pallets", forts and extra "covers" for years.

Beautiful quilts and a beautiful job of quilting. I have one of those poly quilts that was tied right near my bed now. Mama made it and backed it with flannel, no batting. I am cutting squares for another. They are so warm and last forever.

When we were growing up, we didn't have heat in our bedrooms, only a warm morning heater in the other room. We had so many quilts on us that we could hardly turn over. Oh, those good ole days! The feather beds were under us and we finally had a warm spot and slept so well.

Memories is all I have now as everyone is gone.
