Beautiful quilts!

SewSew2 08-05-2012 04:01 PM

I really like all three....very creative on your part. Come on over to my house and help me use up my scraps. Three excellent quilts at no extra fabric to buy, way to go.

Very nice use of your scraps. I like "mindless" sewing and will get more accomplished when the strips are precut. Keep up the great work!

how did you do this. Did you just sew the strips until you had the width or length you wanted? I too like the yellow I think I must give this one a try.
Pat

Yes I did. I sewed the number of strips together and then trimmed into the correct lengths so I had squares. Since it is scrappy, it doesn't matter--when one strips ends, you start another one. Then, I pressed and took it to the cutting board and trimmed to the correct length.

Superb quilts.

peaceandjoy 08-06-2012 03:30 AM

Saw the red one, thought that was pretty, scrolled down to yellow - wow, the different sashing changes it so much... Saw the black one! Oh my gosh, it's gorgeous. Looks like stained glass!

marymm 08-06-2012 03:33 AM

I think the results are absolutely beautiful. Thanks for sharing a great idea.

Yooper32 08-06-2012 03:37 AM

Good Heavens! Yes, that is a lot of scraps and you have really put them to a marvelously good use.

janegb 08-06-2012 04:02 AM

These are just Awesome! Nice to reduce the stash so much too!

catladyquilts 08-06-2012 04:32 AM

what a great use for scraps. it's amazing that the same pattern looks so different just because of the colors used. great job

rj.neihart 08-06-2012 04:38 AM

Very nice! Almost look like the bookshelf quilt...

sewnbug 08-06-2012 04:45 AM

Wow lots of scraps and lot of lovely work

calicojoan 08-06-2012 05:23 AM

I love scrappy quilts! Not sure if the satisfaction of getting rid of "scraps" out-weighs the visual they give when they are pieced together!:)

joyce888 08-06-2012 05:27 AM

Wow all three are great. Reminds me of one of those illusion pictures that if you hold it close to your face and move it away slowly you will see the hidden picture. Great job!

All of the quilts are lovely. Hard to decide which one I like best. Great use of your scraps!

IBQUILTIN 08-06-2012 07:58 AM

Awesome. Isn't it great how different colors can make such a difference

sharin'Sharon 08-06-2012 08:20 AM

I just sorted through a lot of my fabric and didn't realize how much very useable sized 'scrap' fabric I owned. Have been making quilts for almost 30 years and only OWN the one I made my mother for her 90th birthday (that I got back after her passing). Have made an annual church raffle quilt all those years and MANY quilts given as gifts and fundraisers and of course have scraps from all of them. My favorite pattern is the Log Cabin and hoping that (maybe next year) I can put together a neat looking Log Cabin using some of all those quilts and have myself a Memory quilt. Thanks for sharing your work. Looks like you had lots of scraps, also!!! Nice to see them put together.

feffertim 08-06-2012 08:23 AM

Yes, and I have a lot again. I have a whole box (about 2.5' tall and 18" square) of just 2.5" strips. I made about 5 or 6 of those jelly roll strip style scrappy quilts and used up a lot of them last year (like here...http://www.quiltingboard.com/picture...t-t194791.html ) but alas, the box is full again!

It is my goal to finish them all the tops up into quilts this year. I think I had over 30 scrappy quilt tops of some type or another. I'm always on the lookout for a great scrappy pattern--easy, fast, but pretty.

Melrose 08-06-2012 01:31 PM

Very nice, here go my scraps. Plenty to make strips with.

quiltingcurious 08-06-2012 01:48 PM

Looks like a puzzle all nested together, love the red and black ones the most. What an accomplishment to use up all those scraps and have something so beautiful for the fruits of your labor!

Judith 08-06-2012 03:20 PM

Fabulous! Good for you.

DianaSwi 08-06-2012 03:49 PM

dilyn 08-06-2012 04:11 PM

I would have to use up my whole stash to make that many large quilts! What a wonderful job you did!

Wintersewer 08-06-2012 06:09 PM

I love them all....not sure which is my favorite.

ctipton 08-06-2012 09:27 PM

I think those are so cool

earthwalker 08-06-2012 09:32 PM

Brilliant! All three are beauties. Amazing how different each colour makes them. Well done, a superb scrap busting effort.

kensington 08-06-2012 10:23 PM

Looking for the "Faint" smilie.

In January, 2011, I began my quest to control scraps. I had bags of them sitting around--a lot of the bags were full of leftover backing trimmings, cotton clothing, etc. I was sick of it, so I spent a lot of time just cutting it all up--mostly strips of 1.5", 2" and 2.5" along with a bunch of squares. However, I enjoy sewing, and so inbetween all the cutting, which can get old at times, I began to do some mindless sewing. I saw someone here make a simple strippy quilt using 1.5" strips and using red as their contrast color.

So, I decided to do something similar. I did a red one, then a black one, then a yellow one. They were easy and fun and used up a lot of 1.5" strips. Wow. I got my 120 liter trash bag over half empty....

But, they were only tops. I've embarked on my quest to actually finish my quilt tops this year--either by tying or learning to FMQ or something else.

I finished the yellow one first by a fancy decorative stitch using white thread on the yellow borders. The red and black ones are FMQ--which for me is a learning curve. In the end, I like them all. I used poly batting and finished the borders this past week during the Olympics.

Great job with the scraps. I like the red and black, the yellow almost doesn't show up in the photos
