3 summers in the making

2 Attachment(s)
Six years ago my daughter became an instant mother to 4 when she married. Three years ago they moved to Alaska for jobs and a better fit from where they were living before. So I finally got to be a Grandma over the summers when the 2 youngest come to visit with their father. The first summer they stayed here with me and DH while DD and SIL were working in Anchorage and trying to find a house to buy. At first it was a BIG learning curve for me and them. They are hyper-active and have very short attention spans. But both of them wanted me to teach them to sew. So the first summer we made a pillow and a pillow case. That wasn't too bad and next they wanted to make quilts for their beds. So 3 summers later we finally have finished quits.
The points don't match, the quilting is haphazard, nothing is "square", they'll probably come apart in the first wash, but the bonding experience taught me so much about them and the smiles upon completion was more than worth the frustration. So here are my new quilters.

Couldn't be prouder of them for sticking with it and completing a project. That was a big step for both of them.

Brilliant quilts. Your GK's will really appreciate the times you spend together teaching them and will probably call on you loads for future projects...and hugs too!

That was a beautiful story. It's so nice when boys take an interest. If they someday fall in love with women who quilt, they will be very supportive.

Great story and I am sure you made good memories that the children will talk about for a long time. They did good on their quilts and when they go to bed at night they will have good thoughts about making a quilt with Grandma.

What great memories both you and the kids have. They may last longer than the quilts but even that is great. Wish I had had this opportunity with my grandmother.
