This fabric feels retro to me anyway!

Pattern: Square Dance (Fabric Cafe) Uses 1 yard of each of 3 different fabrics.

Fabric: Moda, but not sure of name. It's main appeal was the $3.99 price tag at my LQS. It was on the promotional shelf so it was mine!

Size: 45X50 (or so)

Style: This is a "summer quilt" - no batting so the "quilting" is done just enough to secure the top to the backing when it's washed.

Backing/Binding: Walmart $5 sheet - brought around for the binding.

This was a UFO until I discovered it when I was digging for something else. My goal for the summer is to get rid of those UFOs and I'm making good progress!

(TRYING to add pictures, but keep getting the blue screen of death. It's coming ... eventually.)

Great quilt!
Looks like a nice and easy one to put together ... and a great stash buster too!!

Curious? What size did you make each of your blocks?
Please and Thanks!!!

5 1/2" block pieced - 5" block sewn.

I love these 3 yard patterns. When I want them bigger I just start adding borders from my stashlette. Didn't do that on this one - followed pattern exactly.

I was already thinking ahead to using more yardage for a larger one. I like the pattern and proportions, thus why I asked about your block sizes.

I've committed to doing a Passage Quilt, and this might be a good one for the one fabric I'd like to use from my stash. And no doubt I'llhave coordinating fabric that'd work with it. Bonus, for me, it'd be an easy one to quilt on my machine.

You mentioned other 3 yard patterns? Is there a source for these online? or just ones you've collected over the years?

Please? and Thanks!!!
(again!!)

Fabric cafe (fabriccafe.com) is my source for 3 yd patterns. Found them at the Houston QUilt Show last year. They bundle 3 coordinating yards of fab with a pattern included for a set price. Last sale that was $15 and change for the bundle including pattern - shipping was $3 total. Not sure if that sale is still going on - promo code was SHIP. I have several of those patterns now so it's a great resource.

I also have several 5 yd patterns from other places, but those make a pretty generous sized lap quilt. These are large baby or average lap. Lots of uses for such things - even table covers, something to keep in the car - drape on a chair, toss at end of bed ....

very nice ,orange i love u

Annaquilts 07-06-2011 09:04 PM

I love it. Orange is good! Funny I was just at Walmart looking at their ornage sheets. they had two or three nice different shades. Teh only thing is that they are not 100% cotton. Do you have any problems with sewing or washing since some is cotton and the sheet is mixed?

JanTx 07-06-2011 09:08 PM

no - but I'm pretty new at this - so no problem when I wash them, but don't know about down the road. According to this board many people use sheets - and many use the Walmart sheets.

Thanks! Being north of the 49th, puts a bit of a damper on some of these geat finds! I was hoping they were online free patterns. Oh well!!! :) Not that I need anymore patterns as potential. More than enough, for sure, already.
