3D Pinwheels
1 Attachment(s)
I learned about this block yesterday at my quilt guild meeting. It is in the most recent issue of Quilt magazine, I believe. I made these two blocks last night. The original is 10" sq., which is pretty large for me, so I made one half that size also. I don't think I can get it smaller, though, because of the many layers of cloth, but I might give it a try!
The folded and sewn 3D parts of the pinwheel look just like a recent post of a baby quilt, something about Surprise. If I can find it again quickly enough, I may edit it in here. Anyway, hope you like looking at my blocks. Here is a link to that baby quilt I remembered: Surprise! Baby Quilt |

Love it! Colors are a great combo!

Leslie, I love your 3D pinwheel, well I love all pinwheels. Can you explain how you get that little border in the center of the blade? The Surprise quilt is really cute but doesn't explain how to make that block.

Hey ladies! Thanks for the compliments! I found a free pdf on the magazine's website (quiltmag.com) which explains how to make the 3D block. I has pics, which are very helpful. I'm going to try to attach it.
Sammygirlqt, that line of color comes from making the prairie point from two pieces of fabric and folding it in a certain way. Hope the pdf helps! |
Very nice :)

WOW 3D effect is so visible and so crisp and perfect Great Job

Thanks for the link to the Prairie-point tote. Now I understand how you made the pinwheels. Love your color combination. Are you going to make a whole quilt out of them?
|
Very attractive pinwheels. Love the stripe.
|
Very pretty. You did a wonderful job on them.

Leslie, thanks so much for posting a link to this cute tote project. I am just itching for a new spring bag.
|
No, I'm using scraps for these, and I've just about run out! I've made the one large one, and four of the small ones, and I'm planning to make a wall quilt of them, if I can find one more fabric to tie them together. These were Maywood fabrics that I purchased about a year ago at the Int'l Quilt Festival in Cincinnati.
