4 Generations Tabletopper
1 Attachment(s)
Over the last few months I have seen many projects on the "net" made using the International Sisters block and I have been drooling over it and knew that something had to be made using that block. I did not want to make a quilt so a tabletopper was my next choice.
I did 4 blocks only as there are 4 generations of women in my family. The top block represents my mother and she is dressed in a small floral print to honour the many hours that she spends in her garden. The block underneath her on the left of the screen represents me - I have a love of aqua and sea colours. The block next to me on the right of the screen represents my daughter-in-law as blue is her colour. The one all in pink represents my 6 year old granddaughter. This turned out nicely. I like the representation of your family

What a wonderful keepsake & heirloom you have made representing your generation women. Will you label it on the back explaining the meaning of this precious item? Thanks for sharing.

That's beautiful and I love the story behind it.
Love it! I have made a lap quilt and a queen size quilt using this pattern. I just knew it as the African Queen pattern. I would post pictures if I knew how. BrendaK

Lovely and great story!
I love this block!! I would have to make a much larger runner for all the women and girls in my family :). Another block and project lurking in the background!
What a lovely idea! Did you document it with a label containing the informational you gave us?
Very pretty and what a great story behind your table topper
It's lovely! Especially for what it represents to you.
You nailed it! I love the symbolism, and it's just beautiful.
I just figured out that if I made a quilt with all the women in my family, I would need 15. I have four daughters, seven granddaughters and 3 great granddaughters. And one for me!
Beautiful wall quilt and love the story that helped design it.
Aw, this is the first time I am seeing this pattern. It is wonderful. And, so is your table topper. What a nice way to honor family and to keep them in mind. Great job!
You made a lovely family photo. and I love the African Queen pattern. There are several different Queens. Would love to know who the true designer is.
This is a lovely little quilt, Karen! And what a thoughtful idea to represent all your generations. It's a real keepsake.

I also love the pattern and symbolism; however, neither my sister nor I have chosen to have children. My brothers only had daughters. My father was the only son and my mother had one brother who died at two months. Sadly, this is the end of both blood lines which can be traced to King James VI of Scotland and the Cherokee on the Trail of Tears.

I know of a couple who chose to take the woman's surname because she was the last of her family with that name, and the man's family had many males who had children with his name. Something to think about. |
How fun! I like that idea. Beautiful work!

So pretty! On my list!
