This is my newest finished quilt! It's made with charm squares. The method I used to make the 4-patch blocks resulted in 2 identical blocks. So what I did was set them on opposite sides of the quilt. My abstract idea is that the center line is a mirror, and so it's projecting one side onto its reflection, which is exactly in reverse.

Oh, and I quilted on this in red. Usually I try to hide my quilting, so this was a big deal for me to relax enough to quilt with bright red thread on the white border. I love how it came out though :D

This is a really cool quilt! I like the randomness, but also the fact that it's a reflection.

Thank you! Relaxing and randomly attaching squares without any concern for the finished look (minus the reflection) was also a challenge for my obsessive nature .

Awesome!

You did a great job! your quilting is awesome and if it helps you I see a heart in there! Outlined at the bottom with blue and topped with red!

Omigosh, what a great job you did! Love charm quilts and love your bravery! Quilting sure teaches us many things! Sooo adorable!

Love the mirror image look and the red thread is a great touch.

Lostn51 10-11-2009 05:29 PM

I really like the randomness of the color pattern but the fact that its mirrored gives it a complexity in a nice abstract way. I am wanting to do a "scrappy" type of quilt and this is some serious inspiration!!

What a fun, fun, fun quilt! Love the two 4-patch blocks on the corners. That is clever!

Lucy, I love the mirror effect! Really pretty. Your fmq is great, too and it was such a good idea to do it in red.

Originally it wasn't there, but when I laid it out, it ruined the square effect, since matching fabrics were next to each other. So it looked like I had a row of rectangles which I wasn't crazy about.

Bevanger 10-12-2009 04:27 AM

what a neat idea. it came out fantastic

amma 10-12-2009 08:05 AM

WOW!! I love the mirror image, the quilting, the fabrics... :D :D :D

k3n 10-12-2009 08:37 AM

That's beautiful Lucy - the centre strip was inspired! It's turned it into a work of art, the movement through the quilt is just fantastic, and the more you look at it the more you see. I went back and saw the heart that crkathleen mentioned, then I saw 3 hearts nesting into each other. And quilting in red, I have to be brave enough to try a contrasting thread one day when my FMQ is better! Yours is fabulous! :D

ranger 10-12-2009 08:40 AM

Great idea. Love it.

Anyone else 'see' the suggestion of a shimmery heart shape in this quilt? I was leaning back from the computer, took my eyes off the monitor and looked back again and saw it. I think it's because of the mirror effect and the red squares that form the 'valley' of the heart.

Thank you

This is actually one of my first FMQ attempts. I just got the Flynn Quilting Frames and it makes my FMQ quilting going from  to  this is easy to  . I don't know how well you can see it, but I used a different pattern on the squares. It's a bigger loop-y pattern then what I did with the white.

I'm so happy with how this one came out.

Thank you all for your kind words

LucyInTheSky 10-12-2009 03:11 PM

Oh, and another cool thing about this quilt. I BARELY PINNED! Everything except for 2 seams nested. That I was really proud of.
