4th of July Quilting...what are you working on today?

Finally starting to quilt this scrappy quilt today. I hope I can at least get it finished quilting unless I need more thread and then a trip to JoAnnes will happen LOL.

Your quilt is very pretty. I don't see any safety pins. What do you baste your quilts with to quilt it on your sewing machine? I am a sewing machine quilter, also. some I take to a friend to do on her longarm and when I get in the mood I hand quilt.

DebraK 07-04-2012 07:41 AM

ooo, that's pretty. I have this on my wall
http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q...ted/004-11.jpg
and this on my frame.
http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q...ted/002-10.jpg
not sure which one I'll work on.

tucsonquilter 07-04-2012 07:46 AM

Quilter53, I use basting spray. So much easier than pinning.

DebraK, Love those colors!

DebraK 07-04-2012 07:48 AM

I can tell you are someone who adores color. I love your quilt.

Diane007 07-04-2012 08:32 AM

Very nice.. I really like the one with the stars

DebraK 07-04-2012 08:42 AM

I shamelessly took the idea from someone here ;-) it is only half of the size of the desired center and I'm still in idea limbo over border treatment ;-) The other on is a UFO from 5 years ago. They need love too ;-)

crafty pat 07-04-2012 08:43 AM

I love all the quilts you two have made, so colorful and beautiful.

QUILTNMO 07-04-2012 08:44 AM

very pretty!!!!

Nice quilt! I am finishing setting up my quilt studio. I moved a few things around. I retired my Bernina and put up my new Sapphire 875 which will be next to my older Sapphire 830. I loved it so much I decided to get the quilters edition. Besides my Bernina is plum worn out. Hubby is away for 7 days so I am going to pull all my scrap bins (4 large ones) out to the living room. I hope to get them all cut and organized before he gets home. I want to work on my 2 quilts from the VT quilt festival classes. I have many others to quilt as well. So glad to be home and sewing. Enjoy your day! Luann in CT

I purchased 30 4-patch blocks at a yard sale for $8. I thought I would make a quilt from them. I may not have made the right decision to turn them into a D4P but I guess we will see.

I was in a rainbow charm swap a bit ago, and decided to try to turn them into a Dresden plate something or other.

So, I'm (slowly) working on that, lol.

The charms:

So now, I'm taking an ironing break...hopefully will get them all ironed open before bedtime. :)

kountrykreation 07-04-2012 09:29 AM

Have fun for me... cause I'm working. Well, guess I'm at work (not actually working) and purusing the board, living vicariously thru all your lovely and fun time quilting today

serenitybygrace 07-04-2012 09:43 AM

 :hunf: I am so sorry to have taken up most of the page. I do not know how to get the extra attachment of my I Spy quilt off. I have PMed Patrice.

Not sure I am going to get any quilting time today. We have company coming this afternoon for swimming and cookout. But here is what is on my design wall. Not very true colors but I couldn't seem to get "color" without lightening the pic significantly.

Quilt Novice 07-04-2012 10:47 AM

Very nice!

DebraK 07-04-2012 12:02 PM

wow! boy oh boy, how I love your charms!

DACO48 07-04-2012 12:18 PM

No sewing today, but I am making a large freezer full of home-made ice cream later.

DebraK 07-04-2012 12:35 PM

I am spending a quiet 4th just doodling ideas to finish my latest quilt.

I started this quilt over a year ago using salt dyed batiks and one loud print that has all of the other colors in it. The name of the quilt will be "Celebrate your happiness!" When I finished the Dresden plate, it was a giant volcano. I had heard of the volcano problem, but never ran into it on my smaller plates. I am now a qualified expert at 'frog sewing'. Did I mention that the Dresden Plate is 48" across? DH was out of town two days last week, so I spent the time un-sewing and resewing the whole thing. It is now flat. ( I will now draw all stitching lines, that are more than a few inches long.)

The second picture is the background fabrics that it will be appliqued to. That is what I am currently doodling, how to use them for greatest effect.

This quilt is going to hang in the lobby of my friend's business in Portland, OR. I feel so honored, nervous, and excited about being asked. Thank the Lord above that he didn't give me a time limit. If any of you have any ideas for the background set up, please feel free to post them. If I use your suggestion, I will gladly give you design credit on the label. My original idea was the light fabric, framed with a narrow green border, followed by a wider dark border. That just seemed too tame for his space. Ideas?

Neesie 07-04-2012 03:34 PM

I've been washing fabrics and have a pair of shorts on the cutting table, for DGD. Went to WalMart and Hobby Lobby, looking for a specific type of pattern fabric. Couldn't find it at either place, so came home with a ladder (DH took my last one outside and got it all nasty, so I bought a new one for the house) and some "consolation" fabric.

I hate it when I get a certain type of fabric in my head, then can't find it! :-(

Beautiful work!!!

LTeachergeorge 07-04-2012 05:55 PM

I'm spending the day TRYING to finish up a couple UFO's. One is a basket tablerunner made from Deb Strain's Fresh Flowers (from a couple years back -- brightly colored zinnias). It's on my design wall (my living room floor) waitng for a decision on a final border. The other is a sudoku quilt for my DGS that has been quilted. When I trimmed the extra fabric after sewing on the binding, I trimmed too close and need to take out a section of binding and replace it. Just hate when I do stupid things like that!! Kids and grandkids came by for a swim before the fireworks start. Always a pleasant surprise! Hope all of you enjoyed the day as much as I have!!

I finished the blocks for Spaghetti Junction by Anka's Treasures. Then headed next door with the kids for a 'quick swim' and stayed 4 hours, even though it was 100 degrees in MN today.

jkwynn 07-04-2012 06:57 PM

I did get them all ironed! Woot! And in time for fireworks, too. :)

I love Dresden plates and sure would like the measurements to yours! What about some of your gold/orange in the background? Whatever you pick I think it will be amazing!

Oh, I hate that, too... I'll have something in mind & then can't find it anywhere... grrrrr! But, like you said, there's always consolation fabric (LOVE that term!)!

My Dresden plate...

I used Marilyn Doheny's 25"- 9 degree circle wedge ruler. I found it at my LQS. I do know that there is also an extension piece available for it also. The office this will hang in has a grey and white color scheme, so I thought the pop of lime green would 'echo' visually.

The 4th of July was my Father in Laws 90th birthday. We had a wonderful day with the family. I quilted him a wall hanging with fish swimming in both directions. He loved it!

Well I need to make this. Time to order the ruler! Thanks for the info.
