Hey roguequilter, my cousins live in White Rock, BC just over the border. I'm Canadian and now live in Ridgefield, WA! For Christmas I have asked my family here for a small plastic tote from each (3). Right now my scraps are spread in piles on a back bedroom table (plywood laid on the posts of a bed) color sorted. Have many of the totes but now need more!!

Tartan, Christmas for me will be a couple more plastic totes, 1 each from my family here! (3).

LOL, by switching to another craft. Scrapbooking, card making, etc. So her sister and I do the quilts!

The sister is my "angel" who visits me twice a year - Fabric Depot here we come. She introduced me to quilting and now enables me!

The church group is giving away such large pieces of fabric? ? ? ? Our church group takes this in and uses it. They use everything and anything. Some very large pieces of knit are used for backings. Little pieces of anything are sewn together to make the tops.

my mil was vistiing a few years ago & asked me how small the scraps are that i could use, because there seemed to be an "awful lot of wasted fabric" at her church quilting group. so, i brought her a completed block from project that was current at the time. 20-patch unfinished at 3 1/2" ... comprised of 1 1/4" patches. i told her i can use anything that i can get a 1/4" seam in. so ..following week she showed up w 3 black garbage bags of scraps (and dust bunnies, strings, thread etcetcetc) looked like they went home & swept out their sewing room closets! lollol ..but i sorted thru, pulled out the wonderful good and since then she brings me a little at a time. i now have several flat underbed boxes of folded "scraps" (aka fat quarters or slightly larger), strips, precut squares of various sizes, orphan blocks (of which i have used for wonky piano key type borders, or disassembled for tiny chunks of fabric) ..chunks & larger scraps. what some would call 'crumbs'. all kept in spare bedroom. but it's been a slow process to organize and procure boxes to facilitate my mania for organizing. out of all, i've made several quilts for grand treasures, doll quilts, miniature quilts, quilts for friends & one row quilt w group of 7 other quilters on another forum. and shared w grand treasures who both now sew, one of whom, has made several doll quilts, 18" doll dresses, stuffie monsters, guinea pig stuffies etc.
.... they agree with gramma ham (moí :) ) ...fabric is wonderful ...fabric is fun!!

yes!! i called my mommy in law and told her what i had found after quick sort thru looking for cw/1800's repro favs for project i'm starting now. she said it came from the husband of diseased quilter. the church group went thru, grabed yardage and passed the boxes of "scraps" to her for me. there were very few real scraps ..mostly fat quarters, wof 1/2, 1/4 yrd cuts & some wof cuts up to 4 yards in length. beautiful fabric. some older, some not ..a package from keepsake quilting of quilters quarters by designers like jo morton, all 1800's repros. another packet from connecting threads labeled 'soldier blues' ..gorgeous fabrics, much of it will be making appearance in quilt i am recreating from photo of quilt circa 1825-50 that i found in a book of historic american quilts. i repacked into boxes and it will be gone thru more carefully after christmas. my spare bedroom doesn't have overhead light & only one window ..so wait for sunny days to better see color and prints and will sort thru ..keep some sorted into stripes, paisleys, certain color combos, dots, batiks etc. then some will go to friend who does charity quilts for Caring Hands group & linus. some for grand treasures.
