68 yr old baby quilt
1 Attachment(s)
Cleaning out my cedar chest and I came across my husbands baby quilt handmade in 1943 by his mother/grandmother.
I remember asking MIL why it was made with pink fabric and she said back then they used alot of pink for boys. Guess Sunbonnet Sue/Farner boy has been around for a long time. |
Awesome quilt! You are so lucky to have it.

What a treasure!! Interesting that it is twice as long as it is wide -- probably easier to wrap the baby.
|
that is really cute, my hubby has one from the same era-and it is pink and purple
|
what a treasure to pass down the generations

Have a Blessed day Ellen |
Beautiful and so special:)

My MIL mentioned that her mother made her a SBS for her first baby also. She had all boys. She can't find it now. I made her a new one for Christmas. I like this with the big blocks. I think she said her's was pink too. Didn't know what you were having back then.

what beautiful colors and pattern, and still in such great shape...
|
The colors are still so fresh. I have my 1st quilt made by my grandfather. It is faded, but then it is 80 years old.

What a treasure!

Back in those days I beleive they made the quilts to cover the baby in the cribs - narrow, but long. and it covered teh babies well also when held - they were not swaddled in teh quilt. I saw so many of these long narrow quilts back in my days growing up ... about the same time era.

Neat that you have it! A special treasure.

Good of you to have it. Also, back in those days you did the baby's sex until it was born.
