I'm sorry I don't have a link for those placemats, but I remember that I watched Fons & Porter TV Show in the past last year. They made a quilt that used 3" hexagon then sewed strips around the 3" hexagon. It is the same way that you make a log cabin quilt. I cut 2" strip wide for putting around the 10" hexagon.
