I've set up a web site with pictures of my quilts. I've been retired for 6 years now and you can tell what I've done with my "free" time!
http://web.mac.com/yvonneericson/iWeb/This%20and%20That/QUILTS%20by%20Yvonne.html For whatever reason the three quilts here didn't find a place on the web page. A techie I'm not! |
Yvonne, Just looked at all your quilts and they are all so beautiful. These would inspire any quilter!!! Tricia
|
Hi Yvonne,
They're fantastic, every one of them! Mel |
Yvonne......you did a nice job on your web pic layout....It looks so bright and cheerful......I don't know which I like best; but will go with the cats and chickens. True inspiration
|
I love all the ones on your web site. You either don't sleep or are a very fast worker. I really like the black and white you posted here. The geometry of it appeals to the math side of me.

love your projects Yvonne

There all so wonderful. I loved watercolors and grandma candy dish. Beauiful work on all of them
|
Sorry I guess I posted wrong
|
Now these are absolutly beautiful, have you appliqued long? I"m interested in applique and have been practicing the different methods.
|
Weste, nothing wrong with your post. That's a beautiful quilt, and you should be very proud of it. :D
|
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I've been having some fun!!! :o)
Catherine, I've not done very much applique work. In fact a couple years ago I asked my sister to teach me how. The results, after about 10 minutes of work was, "Tiggers don't like applique!" and I was Tigger at that point! Not my cup of tea. Well, I couldn't just leave it alone because every pattern I really like has some applique. SO.... I'm trying again to learn how. I'm still struggling but it's becoming easier. It's just like everyone says, I gotta keep practicing! "I hate practice too!" In my minds eye, I just pick up the needle and presto, I've a beautiful applique block! Ha! I also have to give Leslee credit for pushing me to try that little Hawaiian applique block. Hopefully someday applique will become my project of choice. Isnthatodd, That black and white quilt idea was taken from one of Yvonne Porcella's books. I just started cutting fabric and making things fit. If there was a hole I cut squares and strips until there wasn't a hole any more! It has to be my favorite project to date! Lots and lots of fun. (I have a math minor!) |
I love the whimsical ones - Malibu cow and the frog pond made me giggle.
|
Yvonne; I absolutely adore your web site. You are doing what I want to do. And I can see our color palettes are very similar. I just love bright bold color. I drool when I see red! Fuschias a favorite and any shade most people would want to wear sunglasses around just gets me warmed up! Boy am I revved up after taking your cyber tour!! I need to quit feeling guilty when my piles of fabric and my machine are speaking to me and so are the dirty dishes! Guess I best buy more paper plates!!
|
Wonderful work!!! May I ask where you got the frog pond pattern? I would like to do that one.
|
You go Girl!!! Those are all wonderful!! Keep up the good work. What inspiration.

rvquilter, the above address has the pattern for Over by the Pond. It's a fun pattern to make. I learned paper piecing by making this quilt. It should not have been my first paper piecing effort but I finally figured it all out! I learned a few new words, how to rip out teeny-tiny stitches, and to cut larger chunks of fabric! Susan S. Don't you just love the bright colors they're putting into fabrics? My sister calls me the 'color maven' and my brother always wants to know WHY don't I 'put a little color into my quilts?' The hardest quilts I've made were the ones I let my daughters pick the focus fabric for. They chose "out of my color pallet." It was good for me to learn to work with other colors but difficult! I've discovered, I like the earthtones other people use but not to work with! Give me clear colors and forget the shades! Thank you one and all for the kind words. I'm glad you're enjoying the web site. Someday, I'll get back in there and edit a few of the errors in spelling, etc! But who has time to work on a web site when there is fabric waiting to be cut and stitched? |
LOL I probably will too. Thanks for the link. I got it ordered.
|
Yvonne, I just looked at your web, WOW~~~Those are wonderful. I love Julie's,Matthew's, Naomi & Jon's & Good & Plenty, the most. But I'd be thrilled to have received any one of them. Is the convergence pattern the one by Ricky Timm's? I really like them too. Keep up the great work. I'm just starting to try applique, I'm not sure how I'll like it. I'm doing both hand & machine. I've only been quilting 3 1/2 yrs. I really love it. I hope to have 45 quilts under my belt in the next , oh 10-20 years!!!LOL Thanks for sharing, it is a great inspiration.

Yvonne,
You are a very gifted quilter. I enjoy looking at all different types of quilts, and everyone I've seen of yours is just beautiful. I'll have to get my quilt book out sometime and scan some of my quilts to show. Linda |
Since I like traditional quilts so much, my favorites were the wedding quilt and the Tennessee Waltz quilt on your web site. They're gorgeous.
|
weste, I love your quilt - the color choices are perfect.
|
Yvonne - I had not seen this thread before & checked out your website. WOW, WOW, WOW! You are a master quilter. Such variety & good use of color. And all that in 6 years! You must sew in your sleep. How wonderful to be so talented. Thanks for sharing.
|
Nice! I particularly like that black and white quilt!
|
Thanks Yvonne, I needed the smile this morning. I adore "Frog Pond"; it's absolute fun. It made me laugh like crazy and I owe you one.
|
Wow! These are great! I'm a bit shy of applique. Since I joined this site my to-do list has definitely gotten longer! :D Too many things to do before I learn (and gain the patience for) applique.
Weste, what is the pattern name of your beautiful quilt? |
. Now I'm curious, is appliqué all done with the same slipstitch method that I'm doing the Hawaiian one with or are there various stitches used?
|
Steve,
I am not the applique expert on this site by any means. I am a beginner! I use the same little tiny stitch that I try to hide to the best of my ability on my applique and my pseudo Hawaiian attempt. There are other stitches to use on applique and other techniques. You can do raw edge appliue, machine applique, etc. The list is endless, I am sure! I recommed that you hit the search button at the top of the page, type in applique and then read through the applique notes there and then google it and then find a book or two and read and then listen to what Leslee has to tell you. Eventually you will find a style that you like best OR you'll find that you do not like applique at all. The main reason I am learning to applique is that all the quilts I like best have some. Grr! I prefer machine piecing traditional quilts. It's just that I'm not a patient person. I want it done yesterday, thank you very much! I'm working on realizing that I'm not working for someone else any longer and my time is my own. I need to RELAX! Oh, yeah, I'm doing real good on that! |
Your quilts are lovely and I like your website. I really loved the watercolor quilt and hope one day to try one myself. I've got that on the list, along with one day creating a website, too. :-)
|
I love those! The frog one is wonderful! Thanks for sharing them with us.
M |
Beautiful work!
|
Wow!! You're a color master!! :!:  :!:
|
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
Quiltin's just too much fun, isn't it? Karla, thanks for the compliment. My slogan is, "You can never have too much color!" though I've approached it a few times! Thanks again for checking out the pics. |
Thank you sooooo much for sharing. Your quilts are fabulous.
|
How did I miss this post?!! What a visual treat! Your website was great! I knew you knew color, Yvonne, but it was such fun seeing all your pretty and sometimes zany quilts.
You put the fun in quilting! Make more! |

Yvonne, I somehow missed this thread and I just checked out your quilts. Now, if I can get my jaw off the floor, I'll tell you what I think
You are awesome! Must be a quilt goddess...all that in 6 yrs. You've done some fantastic work..thank you for sharing, I sure enjoyed looking at those. What inspiration! Oh, and there are some amazing quilts displayed under the Calif. quilt show tabs too. I'm  |
Whoa! Yvonne, I REALLY, REALLY don't like pink, nor do I care much for the blue (turquoise?) in your Good and Plenty quilt. But I have to say the quilt is just GORGEOUS! I may not like those colors much, but, boy, do they WORK in that quilt with the black and white patterning. Good lesson to me about color, that's for sure. Good and Plenty is definitely my favourite.

A little background here on "Good and Plenty." It was made for a high school graduate. I asked her mother about colors and her room was black and white with hot pink accents! At first those were the only colors planned for this quilt but the gold and turquoise got involved and they just seemed to work. It was amazing to watch this quilt grow. Nothing was planned ahead, no pattern to speak of. It just "happened!" |
my favorite is your frog... very nice
