Abandoned string blocks
2 Attachment(s)
I went in my sewing closet to find a specific fabric and found these long abandoned string blocks. They were squared off, pressed and on a hanger, forgotten. I was 8 blocks short of a square, so I made 8 of them this afternoon and pieced everything into one block. Since it has been over 10 years that they have been in the closet, I find that the quality of my workmanship has definitely improved in that time. It was nice to see some of the fabrics of my long ago projects. I also find my taste in fabric has evolved. It is 63 inches square, more or less. I have this on my design wall as I decide what step to take next.

Such a nice colorful discovery! It is beautiful.
what a fun find! I like to make string blocks--kind of a 'no brainer" and love how they look.
fun cleaning up those UFO. Looks great. Love the dark centers.
Wow! I like it!
I just finished a quilt that I started about 10 years ago. Let's just say that I've improved a bit and it's a good thing :D |
Nice that you can use them, but even nicer that you learned something good about your skill improvement and change in fabric style.
As I look at your quilt, I see spools in some of the blocks. Very pretty quilt.
Fun, colorful batch of blocks! Terrific top!
I love all those bright fabrics. Please post the completed quilt. I know it will be beautiful.
Gotta love those scrappy quilts!
love the scrappy look
Fun quilt to keep or give away. Very colorful and cheerful. Yes, it is nice to do a scrappy and remember all the projects of the past all wrapped into 'one album'. Enjoy.
Beautiful job! This is my favorite quilt to make when I just want to sew and not try and decide what to do.
That's beautiful!!! I also see spools in it. Such a great quilt!
Well done!
Fun, fun. Scrappy strings, a favorite of mine.
Great scrappy and how fun to finish an old UFO!
It’s like a technicolor dreamcoat! How cool to find them pressed and ready to go! I look back on my early days of quilting. I was loosely goosey about the 1/4 inch, wondered what the big deal was about pressing. (((shudder)))

 looks fantastic
Wow! You and I have the same taste for bright colors. Love yours and look forward to seeing how it comes together. Thanks for being a day brightener on this gloomy day in southeast Idaho!
Glad you found the blocks and were able to make the remaining ones. I love a good scrappy...well done.
Such a nice string quilt and what a wonderful find! Love it.
I have some QAYG string quilts I want to make. Trouble is I am still trying to use up more already cut blocks. Of course that means I am still making strings. One day maybe.
Yours is very pretty. |
those look great! it's wonderful to finally finish something, isn't it?
A treasure for sure.

I have a find like this on my wall right this minute. I also found some long strips of fabric in the same pattern. Thinking of putting a border on the square and then adding the long strips in a sort of piano border. Looking forward to finishing it some day. Yours BTW is gorgeous!

What a great memory! Very colorful.
