Affairs of the Heart, my first 16 blocks completed

1 Attachment(s)
I have been working on my Affairs of the Heart quilt blocks since March after seeing the gorgeous examples here on the board. I had never done needleturn applique before this and so I enlarged the pattern to around 10" and I picked the easier blocks to start with. I watched so many videos on the different ways you could do needleturn applique until I found a way that worked for me.
I am really enjoying working on them, and can't wait to see each finished block. I am running out of room on my design wall so I thought I would take a photo of the first 16 blocks I have completed, only 20 more to go :p

Absolutely gorgeous! I'm doing Affairs of the Heart, too, and I think when I'm finished I'm going to do another, just to use your colors!

very beautiful!..love it...

Oh my goodness Woody, these are spectacular. I too have just taken my first tentative steps at needle turn applique and started my first block last night. I am not as ambitious as you, though. I chose a much simpler applique for my first but your have inspired me so much with your beautiful examples.

I have found I really like needle turn applique. The inside corners give be a bit of a fit, even with clipping them but I am getting the hang of it. Judging by your pictures you appear to have mastered the technique. Simply droolworthy eye candy.

Those are so gorgeous!!!

AZ Cottontail Quilter 10-01-2012 08:28 AM

Fabulous to the MAX!! Your color selection is wonderful.
I discovered this book through postings on this board and bought it in July. This past week I went on my first shop hop here in Phoenix area and purchased many Moda Marbles 1/4 yard cuts which I plan to pair with fabric from my stash of batiks. How much fun is a gal allowed to have?

jennygrit 10-01-2012 08:38 AM

That is breathtaking. I had never been a fan of black till I started seeing how it makes the colors pop. Another one for my todo list.

leighway 10-01-2012 10:29 AM

Oh Wow!! Now I want to do this. Can you tell us which method of needle turn applique worked for you? I don't want to do the fusible web raw edge type applique but would rather do the more traditional needle turn.

cindyg 10-01-2012 10:51 AM

Beautiful. Your colors are fantastic and you are certainly picking up the knack for needle turn applique. It's stunning.

Diane007 10-01-2012 10:58 AM
