Such as it is the Red Hat Lap which is what I've called it although it grew to fit a full size bed top. So two or one large lap can be kept warm.

straight on look here

I had fun doing the ribbon. Expanded on the original block design.

Had to use angle to get it all

OHhh I LOVE IT!!! You did a wonderful job!!

Moonpi 12-19-2007 03:31 PM

Great! The friendship star variation looks like it would make tiny stars if done as a quilt. Thr red ribbon on top is really eye-catching.

ania755 12-19-2007 04:52 PM

 congratulation....such good feeling to see it done.....happy quilt...

DebJ 12-19-2007 07:48 PM

 :D :D :D :D :D So glad it is done!!!!!!!!!

The Red Hat “Lap” really? Topped with a ribbon panel. Left to right then down. Attic window with her two “girls”, Grandmothers fan because she is a grandmother, Jump for Joy block because she teaches aerobics, the heart garden block – because she loves to garden, eccentric star (aka formal garden so named by me) – because it’s going to be showplace, snail trail – because where there are gardens there are snails, Iris – she lives in TN and that is the state flower, sister’s choice – I chose all the blocks and designed this ( just wish the quilting had turned out better, L next block is Mississippi where I live, blocks in a box variation – to use as label, cake - for her birthday/because she bakes cakes, “stamp block with her dog daisy (my creation) – the funny about her going to purchase stamps because postage was going up. The center block “Red Hat” from the picture I took of her, my “Baby Sister” a member of the Red Hat Society, which is for 50+ ladies. I truly hope she enjoys this quilt for years to come. This was to be a “lap quilt” but it grew or had a thyroid problem one. LOL

Now THAT is pretty clever. What a pretty quilt. Such detail! Enjoyed your block descriptions too! That's what makes a quilt, love for each block! KUDOS! :D

I belonged to a Pink Hat Society.
Well, we weren't very active since the person who started it moved away and didn't really get it off the ground.
I for one, am DEFINITELY going to join Red Hat and wear my PURPLE AND RED!!

Harmony 04-11-2008 08:46 AM

What a lot of thought and love you put into this quilt! What Red Hatter wouldn't give her best red and purple outfit to own this????

blahel 04-11-2008 11:31 PM

A "Red Hatter" is a woman over a certain age I believe - about 45 maybe. There are groups of Red Hatters that meet and go out to dinner and do projects. But to be a red hatter - you just have to meet the age qualifications, not necessary to be in any formal group. This is my understanding of it anyway. I was called a Red Hatter once cuz I wore a red and purple felted hat. However, I just love the hat, and don't really want to be called a Red Hatter!

Izy 04-12-2008 09:55 PM

Thanks stay-at-home, for the explanation - guess I could join your seeing as I am 47!! :D :D

You carry on wearing your hat even if you are '21'!!  (which you might be- sorry if I imply anything other!!)

Pam Pollock 04-12-2008 10:47 PM

Gorgeous!!! What a lot of planning & work! I love how you chose blocks to fit the person! Great work! She'll love it!

Red Hat Society is for women over 50.
Pink Hat Society is for women under 50, but usually for those that are over 40, then they graduate to Red Hat at 50.
Here's a link for you....

Thanks for the info and link

sandpat 04-13-2008 03:30 PM

The quilt is as much fun to look at as the Red Hatter group is to be around. Your sister will love it and recognize each block. You did a great job!
