Aliens!

Had to take my brother to the airport across the border on boxing day so mom and I took advantage of the trip and hit a few fabric stores after dropping him off (and we learned the the states do not do boxing day :( ). I found this line at one of the stores and was in love with it, I bought the two panels (one was the letters the other was the big focal squares in the centre) and a fat quarter pack of the other colors (I wasn't sure what I was going to do with it so didn't want to buy yardage). After some google-ing and playing with EQ this is what I came up with. It was quite tedious to piece together as the blocks from the panel were odd sizes. It turned out quite large as well. Our local fabric store has minky on sale right now and I was excited to go in and get a backing for it only to find out they only have pastel colors :( I will keep my eye out for some inexpensive minky and for now this one will be added to my growing pile of finished tops that need to be quilted.
Absolutely love how it came out and just had to share it, thanks for looking! |
Really cute. BrendaK

They are the cutest aliens I have ever seen. Well done.

How adorable!

Oh how precious! I am always searching for "ABC" quilts...love this one, especially since it would work excellent for a little boy! (I always have the hardest time finding boy-themed panels and our family always seems to have boys!). I will definately be searching for this panel. I love what you have done...the black really sets off the border and the center blocks. Excellent job.
By any chance do you know what line it was? |
This is as cute as it gets.

Beautiful! You did excellent with those blocks in choosing a pattern that worked with odd sizes.
Several years ago I made a quilt for my youngest son's 17th birthday and wanted to back it in minkee. But, had the same problem as you do. I asked the store owner if she could find me some brown minkee and she did. Can you buy from Joann's online? They have different colors. They don't call it minkee though. I just bought 5 yards of black minkee like fabric from them before Christmas. |
Check out this online store: http://www.onlinefabricstore.net/app...qwsAhQ&N=13729
I have never bought from them - just googled them, the prices look great though. |
ooh i like it.

Very nicely done, I always have a hard time deciding how to piece cute panels, or any panels for that matter. I love what you did.

http://www.benartex.com/page/googlies-370.htm As for the pattern, I based it off of this picture I found online, created it in EQ5 and made some changes to fit my fabric and just for personal preference. http://www.fernhill.net/images/Googl...20Monsters.jpg http://www.anniescatalog.com/image.h...7&mode=gallery This site says their pattern is available in a magazine: http://www.fernhill.net/index.php?ma...oducts_id=1805 |
