It would be great to make a casserole cover

Late Bloomer 10-20-2010 04:59 AM

That chicken fabric would make great aprons or table mats. How about tote grocery bags??? I don't think it is the kind of fabric that you would want to cut up too much as the pattern is really cute.

Every time I see fabric at a yard sale or thrift store, it is always double knit. LOL Great find!

puck116 10-20-2010 06:46 AM

The chicken fabric would make a great apron.
Great bargain too.

Sue H. 10-20-2010 06:47 AM

Hey, you did great!! I think the chicken fabric is meant to be used for curtains but I would use it for a quilt back or make a carrying bag for my cutting mat after I quilted the fabric.

trupeach1 10-20-2010 07:02 AM

Great find.........My first thought for the chicken fabric is aprons, the most perfect apron.

I love aprons and chickens.LOL

shopaholic97 10-20-2010 08:24 AM

Wow what a find!!!

totes or purses; placemats; OBW

You could also do a fun, retro quilt by fussy cutting the various designs on the egg fabric and alternating it with cute applique blocks of chickens and eggs.

Man, I am so jealous of your successful treasure hunt!

Charleen DiSante 10-20-2010 10:17 AM

I'm jealous too. Great find!
Just to clarify, did you find out anything yet about the chicken fabric?

You know, it doesn't seem that anyone has ever seen this print before. It's a fun one though! I have enjoyed all of the suggestions from everyone. I'll post a new photo when I get the fabric worked up.

You are right! I just hate the idea of cutting it up too much. I like several of the ideas recieved from the board!

Actually, our local feed store has a community yard sale in their parking lot each year. They had advertised some quilting books in the paper so I decided to stop by. Anyway, the owner of the feed store had forgotten to bring the books, but I noticed the fabric on her sawhorse made table. I picked up the whole stack and asked her for a price and she said $2.00! I almost fainted!

Then she told me to stop in the next week and she would bring in the books and let me look through first...turns out that she just gave them all to me. She said she wanted to give the fabric and books to someone who appreciates the craft of quilting! She siad when I got through this stack of books, she had more if I wanted them.

I feel very blessed!

I'll spread out that piece and take a photo to show sometime on Friday. It is a really neat piece, looks like a hand painted heavy linen or something. I'll be open for suggestions on that one too!

sunflower sue 10-20-2010 05:49 PM

The chicken fabric would make a cute grocery tote !!

canuckninepatch 10-20-2010 06:32 PM

I would make a butchers' apron out of it if there was enough - you know, the type that has a bib front?

sylvia77 10-20-2010 06:49 PM

If there's enough, make a tablecloth out of it.

sawsan 10-20-2010 06:59 PM

Great fabrics. Even souffle , chicken with basket full with eggs for diner . :D

grandma sue 10-20-2010 07:56 PM

Good buy. All very nice.

judi wess 10-22-2010 07:03 AM

Wow, what a deal. The chicken fabric would look charming edge finished and used as a table cloth, at least till you want to use it for something else. Wouldn't it be great as a back for another quilt, two for the price of one?

misoop 10-24-2010 03:54 PM

It would make a cute apron....chef style, with contrasting binding and neck straps.

alica1367 11-08-2010 03:34 PM

There's a new website called " find my fabric.com". I haven't tried it yet. You can type in a description or post a pic and it searches for it.
