This is our friends daughter, Allie, who wanted to learn to sew something. I found this great pattern which was large squares with appliquéd petals on it.
We spent one day and went to the local quilt shop, where she picked out some FQs. She did all of the cutting, placement and sewing on the front (I made it into a pillow sham for her). She even did all of the edge stitching on each of the petals - she chose a different decorative stitch for each set of petals! She was so pleased - it looks fantastic for a first project. close up of one of the blocks Allie and her project |

Thanks all for all the great comments! I have sent her a link to the post so hopefully she will read all your wonderful compliments!
I have to say that she is a great young lady who is very artistic and very talented. The LQS ladies and I gave her some pointers on what to choose but the choice of fabrics was all hers. She also had played around making gifts for her two brothers at Christmas on her Mom's old machine, so the actual sewing went very smoothly. The decorative stitching went slowly (who amongst us can not say that!) , but each petal got easier for her. All I did was give directions - it was all her project. :-) |
eparys, good for you, to do this
AND Allie: I have a granddaughter who is five, and I am going to show her your picture. I want her to know, that this is the kind of project she can work up to. Your an inspiration to others already. Great quilt, and you are a very talented young lady! :D |
