I wasn't going to post this because country blue is probably my last choice in colors. I was trying to work with the stash at my church and it was there. My children laughed when I brought it home.
This is a prayer quilt. A quilter (I use that term loosely about myself), makes the quilt, but without any quilting. The ties are put in but not tied (that's why the safety pins are in it now). When an ill recipient is chosen the quilt is on the altar for a service, then on a table in a corner. Any congregation member who so desires says a prayer as s/he ties a knot. So when the person is under the quilt, he or she is also under our many prayers.
This is my first, but it won't be my last. The next one is on the machine now. I do need to put the ties in this one yet.
This is 'Serendipity' from a book in the library. It was really cool made in more modern fabrics. But an older parishoner will appreciate these colors.

That's really a pretty quilt! And, the colors are nice too.
What a wonderful idea of tying!

What a neat idea!!!
I like the colors in this one. I'd bet a lot of other people will too and whoever gets it will be lucky to have it. Beautiful work for a great cause! Bravo!

You did a beautiful job on this prayer quilt, it will bring someone great comfort :D:D:D

It is pretty and I like the pattern, but the colors are so not me. Having been recently forced to retire due to mobility problems, quilting will be my other saving grace besides my two dogs. I need to learn to live on my new income, or lack thereof, so I will use some of the church's stash if possible. That's what it's there for. I was able to use some combined with new prints for aprons for the bazaar, too. Have you seen the Four Corners pattern? It makes up so cute. So did a ruffled one.

Thank you for the compliments. I've never spent much time quilting. With four daughters and a hard to fit son, apparel was my forte. I will learn, as I already have reading posts on here for the last two weeks.

I do have everything I need for a Delectable Mountains quilt, but the dogs have taken over my bed. So prayer quilts and quilts for ill children it is for now.

What a wonderful idea behind the prayer quilt. I do like the colors and some lucky recipient will feel very "loved" snuggling under it.

Beautiful quilt and what a unique idea I have done a quilt with hearts as part of a group and we each say a prayer for the recipient as we applique the hearts. Thanks so much for the idea of tying the knots Hope to incorporate this into our next prayer quilt!

that is a really pretty quilt, and i love the ideas of praying as you tie it. Around here they crochet prayer shawls.

Very pretty. I like the colors. I've heard of prayer shawls, but haven't heard of the 'tie and pray' thing. I like that idea.

I could not have said it better. Dittos. BTW I think you can safely call yourself a quilter without using the term loosly ;)

Beautiful quilt and such a wonderful idea.
I love the pattern. Where did you find the pattern?

irishrose 11-21-2010 07:50 PM

BMP, It was in the public library. 'Phenomenal Quilts for Fat Quarters' by M'liss Rae Hawley. The one on her cover is this quilt in contemporary fabric. It is stunning. Reversing the colors in the blocks does something special for them. The book is full of great quilts. I like 'Stars Over London' a lot. One with circles, too, but I'm not that brave.

franie 11-21-2010 08:00 PM

I like it.

snicker dee 11-21-2010 08:03 PM
