In May our doll quilt queen Chele challenged us to make mini quilts for the AAQI. These will be auctioned off for Alzheimers research. In memory of my brother in law's mother and my dear childhood neighbor I made these two quilts. They could be no larger than 9 x 12 inches. Chele has all the May doll quilts and AAQI on flicker for all to see.

That is a wonderful thing to do. I bought the Alzheimer's project book from Ami Simms and gave it to my MIL. Her mother died from it and I never got to meet her. It was a very special gift for her as her mother was a quilter.

Beautiful! I agree with Amma, that is a worthy cause.

Both beautiful

Wow, I wish I hadn't missed this thread. My grandfather suffered from that horrible disease for almost three years before he went to be with God.

I'm a fairly new quilter but would love to help. Is it too late?

ToucanSam--No. Chele promoted through the doll swap, but anyone can donate to the AAQI. I have added the website that give all the pertinent information--there is no deadline.

If you decide to make a quilt--post it here so we can all see it.

Beautiful quilts and such a good cause. My Aunt had that for years. When I went to see her she never spoke. She didn't know her children. I always told my cousins that there mother was somewhere in her mind where she was happy and well and to always remember that. Whether or not it's true I believe that with all my heart. It is the only way to think when you watch a loved one go through that devastating disease.

I know what you mean--I saw Lorna a couple of times shortly before she died--and like your aunt she just sat there, but when I touched her hand and said "Hi Lorna, it's Gladie." I really felt a spark of recognition for a brief moment. Thanks for sharing your story.

That is a wonderful project...both my parents died with it. I guess my chances of getting it are double so I want the research and pray for a cure.
Your little quilts are great too!

Thanks, lp. These two I donated last year. I just sent four off--here's the QB link for them.
