Hi everybody! As you know I got my new (and only) templates from Rhonda on March 7th! (That's only 5 days ago!) I've been having a lot of fun with them. I made those few mini's and Kaleidoscopes that I posted on my post "I Got New Templates Today!!!". Well, I made 7 K's and now I'm making a wall hanging out of them.
This has turned into quite the "Learning Experience"!!! You see, I've never done most of the stuff before. 1. I've never made a Wall Hanging before. 2. I am using the K's that I had started learning to make just 2 days before. 3. I couldn't get the rounded edge of the K to turn under 1/4" and look right, so I had to design my own way to do them.....without that step! 4. I am appliqueing them to my background fabric, and I've never done applique before. 5. I'm making yo-yo's for the centers, and I've never made yo-yo's before. 6. I altered Rhonda's Dresdan Kaleidoscope template, (on cardboard not the real one), and made a "Mini K"! It's 5" across instead of 8 1/4". Well, the point is that my K Wall Hanging is a total learning experience. I just thought that I'd post a picture and see what you all think of it so far. I'm thinking about using the applique method and putting gently rolling "Stems" between the bottom 2 corners. Any ideas out there??? I'd love to get your input! My husband just saw this laying on the kitchen floor and said that the corners don't go with it since there's no other gold fabric like it, in the WH. Do you agree? I thought that the gold set it off. Should I leave it just plain or use the same material for the corners? Input please!!!
I originally thought of just leaving it like it is here and making it round with scalloped edges. I wouldn't know how to keep it from folding up though. I'd have to do something to make it stiff enough or to hold it in the correct shape. Leave It Just Plain???? |
Way Cool! I really like it
|
I like both......................and I hate decisions...lol
|
They are both very pretty. Make one of each.
|
lots of firsts for you...kudos to you!!!
not sure how to vote on your dilema. maybe put it aside and t  ke several pictures of it and then maybe that will help you decide. often if i look at what ever it is and then look at a picture they are some how different. :? i hope this is helpful ;) |
I love this! Now I see the two pics side by side, I think I prefer it plain too - but I do so like the stems idea. Not much help, am I?

love the colors!nice job!!
|
Wow. So pretty. You did a great job.
|
I'll give you my 2 cents too....I like the plain a lot more. It just seems to bring out the designs in the "plates" without the gold accents.
Congrats though--it's gorgeous!!! |
Wow, you have been busy. No opinion.
|
Looks like alot of work. Was it? I really like it. Beautifal. ;-)

I've finally decided! The gold pieces look better off the quilt. Your husband is right! But the idea of an appliqued piece would add a nice touch to the borders. It you want to use the mini pieces in the corners, I would use the floral the K's are made out of to mimic the pattern and connect it all together that way in harmony! That sounds good to me. Just a thought. Whatever you decide, Marilyn, it will look great. You've done great so far! :D :D

It has turned out so lovely Marilyn!! I love how you put a blade in between! That is so cool! If it were me I would try several layouts and then choose the two you like the best. Then decide which one strikes you the most. It is a matter of what look are you going for?
I liked the 4 blades you had in each corner at the bottom. I agree if they are in floral like the center that would be pretty on all four corners. Round would be interesting too. You should be able to starch it to keep it's shape. Or you could use a metal circle or a wooden embroidery hoop sewn on the back to attach it to to keep the round shape. I would only use the center part of the hoop if I did it that way. You could frame it also. If you did that you could pull it tight to mount it. Just some thoughts. |

You'll be amazed at how much easier it is than you think. I was amazed. |

i think you were right the first time--the gold sets it off! [well, you know what they say about opinions]...i think it is helpful to take a step back from it
|
I'm soooooooOOOOOOOO jealous! I love it.
