This was at my parent's house and I very vaguely remember it. I already chose the yellow Grandmother's Flower Garden quilt so I didn't take this one but, no one else was interested in it and it's been laying on the couch for months.
I took it to a loving home (mine) where it is wanted. I washed it twice as it was very yellowed and it came out pretty good. I don't know what year it was made but the fabrics look "vintage" to me. The backing is white flannel with blue flowers. |
You have brought home a wonderful family treasure. I know that you will love it & take good care of it. Grandmother's quilts are so special to have.
:D :D :D |
That's pretty! If there are any more that need good homes, you have my addy, right???
|
At least you rescued it, what wonderful memories it will bring.

Veru pretty Pam. Its so nice that you have some quilts from your Grandmother...its really special!
|
I have a couple of old quilts I found in my Mom's stuff and I have no idea where they came from - isn't that awful. My Mom sewed, but don't think she made quilts and know my grandmother did not. Might be my Dad's adopted mother's - all deceased now.
So glad you wer able to have the quilt and cherish it! |
That is beautiful, looks soft and cuddly :D

I was hugging it last night. It is SOOO soft and smells so good after washing. I don't know if there are more yet. My parents lived in the same house for 55 years and it is full to bursting of stuff. Two of the bedrooms couldn't be walked into without climbing over things. They never threw anything away, even the smallest little receipt from 50 years ago.
I have tons of papers and photos to go through and treasures that I have already found like my great-grandparents' marriage license from 1896, the parents of my grandmother that quilted. I am slowly scanning everything. |
Pam, What a wonderful find. If those are not vintage fabrics they could be some of the new reproductions. You are so lucky to find such treasures. My grandmother lived in Illinois. I am in Maryland and was not able to be there when her things were sorted and distributed. I have a few things that she sent me when my mother visited her at different times. I also have a flannel quilt she made for my daughter when she was born. My mother was her only daughter. Two of my uncles lived in her town and looked after her. Neither of their wives were interested in sewing or quilting so they probably disposed of anything like that, unfortuneately.
I hope the quilts bring you fond memories and comfort for years to come. |
I don't think they would be reproductions. My grandmother died 11 or 12 years ago. She is the only one in the family that quilted other than me. My mother didn't sew much and my eldest sister sews mainly clothes.
I posted somewhere else some pictures of 80 Grandmother's Fan blocks that my grandmother told me HER mother made. I plan on putting them together into a top. They aren't perfect and I'm sure I'd have a heck of a time trying to put the curved background piece onto them so, I've started turning the edges of the curved fan under 1/4" and basting so that I can applique them onto squares. In the bag with the blocks were the pattern pieces cut out of newspaper with a date in 1936 on them. |
Wow what great memories!....:-)

very pretty

I agree with Loretta.. the first thing when I saw the blue and yellow flowers was the 30's.. reminds me of fabric in some of my grandmother and greatgrand's quilts that I have. Very nice.. aren't these wonderful treasures.
I have one from my grandmother that is pieced together with violet and dark yellow.. sounds hideous doesn't it.. but that was a common combination back then. One house I lived in as a child had a bathroom that was bright turquoise and salmon...OMG... |
I'm glad you were able to take this treasure home with you!
|
How nice that your able to have something so special. Cherish it along with your memories.

That is so special to have a quilt that your grandmother made. As far as I know I am the firs quilter in my family. My dad's mom used to crochet afghans but never heard of anyone quilting.

Before having it repainted, her kitchen had salmon colored cabinets, with burgundy sheers? kitchen? well, we quilters always say, whatever floats your boat...not floatin mine though. There's just so many other combinations to choose from, these would not be my first, second, third....lol :D |
I'm glad you got the quilt, Pam, and I just love the marriage license!
I'd really like to have something like that of my ancestors. :D |
My parents' bathroom is lavender... deep lavender, not pastel. Also has lavender carpet. Ewwww... I didn't know they put carpet in their bathroom, it's been 30 years since I lived in that house.
