`This is my first attempt at paper piecing and I was totally 'discombobulated'. Not to anxious to do it again. My hats off to any of you who can master this technique.

All four blocks so far. There are two more. They measure 14" sq.

I am thinking you have already mastered this technique. Looks wonderful from my perspective? Fabulous job!

Riley

bearisgray 06-14-2009 12:15 PM

the blocks look nice

when I tried it, I was really surprised at how much fabric it seemed to take

quilter1962 06-14-2009 12:34 PM

Keep at it Jan - your doing a lovely job. I can honestly say your blocks look perfect to me considering it's your first attempt.
Don't forget to post again once you've added the next 2 blocks.

Believe me once you get into some sort of momentum your wonder why you ever found this technique daunting at first. I love doing PP

Thanks Riley and bearisgray. I agree that it takes alot of fabric. I was really being careful with the house fabric because I only had a little bit. I wanted the strips so it would look more like a house. In the picture it looks kind of like a barn.

Evelynquilts 06-14-2009 12:48 PM

It looks like it was worth doing....wonderful quilt.... :-)

MadQuilter 06-14-2009 12:50 PM

Looks great. I've done very little pp but it allows for those tight corners and sharp points.

Quilt4u 06-14-2009 12:51 PM

That truned out great.

kluedesigns 06-14-2009 01:17 PM

the quilt is awesome!

MollieSue 06-14-2009 03:04 PM

I think you've mastered the technique, Jan!!! It looks great to me!! And I love the colors/fabrics your using! :D :D

sewsewquilter 06-14-2009 03:06 PM

I was afraid I had missed your next mystery block. It's great! All of them are.

Chele 06-14-2009 03:17 PM

Well I think YOU mastered the paper piecing! Awesome work! Paper piecing always turns me around. You make it look easy!

Blue Bell 06-14-2009 04:22 PM

You did a perfect job on paper piecing the house block. Love the other blocks, too. Can't wait to see it completed. It is going to be a fabulous quilt.

beachlady 06-14-2009 04:39 PM

Your PP looks great. I am so afraid to try PP. Need to take that PP 101.

Love all your blocks.

JCL in FL 06-14-2009 05:28 PM

I know what you mean. I've done a few paper piecing quilts and it takes several blocks before I get my mind around it. I did turtles one time and the first one took me hours because of ripping out and doing over. Once I got into it I was ok but you really need to do several blocks before it registers or maybe I'm dyslectic or something. Your block looks great, love it.

littlehud 06-14-2009 05:30 PM

That is beautiful. You did a great job.

Your quilt is turning out beautiful, great job. Love your word: discombobulated, we don't hear that very often :D

amma 06-14-2009 08:16 PM

I think you mastered pp quite well...it looks great!!! Love your other blocks, too :D :D :D

omak 06-14-2009 09:28 PM

You did a real nice job.
What impresses me about paper piecing is how detailed you can make a picture block. It is a bothersome technique for people who really like piecing, but you can't beat paper piecing for adding dimension to a block.
Your mystery quilt is teaching you a lot of techniques, rather quickly, isn't it?
Enjoy your color scheme also.
THank you for sharing.

SulaBug 06-14-2009 10:51 PM

Jan,

I do love that top. What's next on it?

quiltluvr 06-15-2009 11:19 AM

I've yet to attempt PP. Don't know if I could master the accuracy with my crazy ways! LOL!

I'm really lovin' all those blocks. Can't wait to see the other two!

Love your house block! I haven't tried PP yet - too scared! LOL

redquilter 06-19-2009 10:38 AM

The blocks look great. Like you, I'm not a fan of paper piecing, but it does make for nice sharp point. You did a really good job.

Justquilting 06-19-2009 11:21 AM

Yoour PP'ing looks fantastic!!! I just can't get it. I haven't tried very hard either. Takes too much thinking!! :D :D Can't wait to see the rest of yours. I love the colors your using!

Janstar, I'm in the same boat about paper piecing. Fear of the unknown, because I've never tried it. Guess I'll have to get brave like you, but my brain doesn't work forward too well let alone backwards. I just love what you've done. Who has this mystery quilt?
Jan

Mousie 06-19-2009 11:52 AM

I love everything about it. great job...great quilt! fab colors! :D

Janstar 06-20-2009 02:29 PM

JanW, The mystery pattern is put out by our quilt guild. We never know what's next until our monthly meeting. There are only two more blocks to go. I can't wait to see what is next either!

Thank you all for your support! It took a couple of trys before I got it!! The worst part being, I won't remember how till I look at the instructions again. Getting 'old' sucks!!

Eddie 06-20-2009 02:52 PM

Very precise looking work, I think you did great on it.

Shemjo 06-20-2009 03:45 PM
