Another old quilt I quilted

This was pieced in 1900. The border was outsized, but I quilted it the way it was. It was badly stained, but cleaned up nicely.

Very pretty!

what did you use to clean it? It sparkles! Great save and /or restore. Love the quilting.
I took the quilt and soaked it in my bath tub with a little synthrapol and a couple of tablespoons of dawn dish soap. After 24 hours,I rinsed it and put hot water in the tub with about 1/2 cup of retro clean( I get it off the internet). I swished it around in the tub two or three times a day, just letting it soak....for 5 days. ( thank goodness we have a shower). Then,I put it in my washer( it doesn't have an agitator) on a short, cold rinse and spin cycle. All the yucky, smelly, yellow discoloration, plus the old stains came out. It is very good quality fabric to start with, which helps.

What a beauty! I'm so glad rescued it!
You should be very proud. Was the quilt hand pieced or machine pieced. Thank you for telling us how you cleaned it, You are a lot braver than I am, I would not have chanced the hot water on the quilt. So glad it worked out for you.
You did a fine job of it.
Both quilts were hand pieced. The fabric was exceptionally tightly woven, compared to others I've worked with. Knowing me...the water wasn't very warm...more like baby bath temp.
Beautiful save and finish
What a keepsake...you did a wonderful job.
Another great save!

That is simply amazing. Get those quilts out of the drawers & closets and save them. Make sure to label if you know who, where, when, etc. :-)

This pink and white quilt is machine quilted...the blue and white one is hand quilted. They were labors of love.
Thank you so much for sharing. Just accepted a quilt to restore - my first. Off to the industrial supply store to get Synthrapol fabric detergent and Retro Clean.
You have inspired me. I have a top made by my grandmother. I kept thinking it should be hand quilted, but we all know that's not happening. Yours is so lovely I'm going to send mine off to finally get finished.

Someone up above is cheering so loud for the great job you did. Old quilts can sometimes be a challenge, because they are not square and a bit floppy on the edges! I think you should be so proud ! It's a lucky. Bed or display rack that gets the honor of this quilt!
