Most any long term care facility will happily accept fidget quilts, especially ones with Alzheimer's units.

My Mom suffered from Alzheimers but at the time, I had never heard of these blankets. Otherwise I would of made her one. She did have a blanket that we kept on her lap or close by so she had something for her hands to do. Thank you for doing this. I know a lot of people will appreciate them.

sJens 02-07-2017 01:49 PM

Well, I am showing my ignorance again, but would someone point me to a definition of "Figit Quilts" and "Nesteldecken," please? These are really colorful and look like fun, but for whom?

These little blankets are for patients suffering from dementia: they are mostly very uneasy and their fingers are always seeking for something to "twiddle" or as we say to "Nestel" with, that can be the curtains or any plants standing around or their own clothes! These blankets are made from different fabrics as flannell, cotton, wool, plush.... so that there are many different feelings! Little pockets to hide something, ribbons and so on...
Best example: a lady sitting in a wheelchair scratched their legs till blodd came, after her was given a fidget blanket her legs healed up!

bearland53 02-09-2017 07:27 AM

Great job - hope you don't mind me copying your idea - have lots of scraps - small pillow panels. I'm sure the local nursing home would love some.

Surely it is allowed to copy this, it's for the best for the patients! And I'll send you a link per PM because I don't know whether it is allowed to bring links up here! There are more examples what these blankets may look like!

kaylfordsollimo 02-13-2017 10:18 AM

I'll bet they do the needed trick for the lucky patients who gets them. Good on you!

Tweety2911 02-13-2017 01:18 PM

You certainly will make the receivers very happy and comforted with your fidget quilts. Great Job!
