Sorry, I couldn't find just one post where we were all using to post our photos and I didn't want to hijack someone else's thread. Anyone else making this star - feel free to hijack this thread.
It took me a few attempts to get this star to come out right. But here it is. My block came out larger than 12 1/2" even though the scale square measured 1". It probably has to do with my piecing. I chose the fall color scheme. It doesn't show up real well in the photo but the brown fabric is mottled with dark browns, reds and oranges. These fabrics remind me of when the leaves start to change colors when a tree has more than 1 color of leaves on it. Candlequilter's Fall Star |

The only tip I can give you that I stumbled on with my 3rd attempt is this -- where you have the half Y seam (where you sew the smaller A+B piece to the larger A+C+D piece), first don't try to do this as 1 seam. Do it as a 2 part seam. Sew longest part of the seam first (A of the smaller piece to the C+D of the larger piece). Then do the smaller part of the seam (B of the smaller piece to A of the larger piece). Second, when you go to make the turn for the Y seam, first clip both the larger piece and the small A+B piece at that corner. Once I did that, I had no trouble manipulating the pieces in order to get them to line up easily to sew that part of the seam. When I tried to sew that as 1 entire seam, it was a complete nightmare. |
Pretty.

Great color choices. And mine came out a little larger, too. I guess that leaves room to square it up if necessary!
