Another UFO

I made this lap quilt and I guess it was just too dull. I got bored with the colors right away. It is full of wrinkles but I can take care of that. Its not the prettiest thing in the world. But, I bet it will make someone at my church or nursing home happy.

It would make me happy!!! Don't be so hard on yourself, every quilt is a labor of love and I know someone will just love it.

Love the Drunkard's Path block. So many ways to put it together. You are right, someone will love this little quilt.

someone will love it

It's a shame that the lack of contrast has dulled your enthusiasm because the construction looks really good and consistent on those curved seams. When you go to quilt it, you could either try using a heavy black thread, outlining the solid 'designs' in the ditch or perhaps an 1/8" outside of the grey solid designs.

Just something to help separate the elements.

It's not all that bad........ why don't you embellish it with buttons etc. There is always hope

I had a similar situation of not enough contrast on one of the first quilts I made. The recipient loves it though, so if she's happy, then I am too.

I betcha if you put some colored quilting on it , it would change your mind. There's nothing wrong with it that I can see.

I think it is very soothing - I like low contrast sometimes and yours is lovely.

It's subtle but pretty. The quilting may bring out the design or you could use it for the background behind an appliqué design. I'm thinking something like the Poppy Quilt (black and white background behind the big orange poppies) that was posted on QB?

your layout is really pretty missy! agreed the colors are very subtle but there are times to be gently poked in the ribs than smacked with a 2x4!

I am thoroughly impressed with anyone who can piece CURVES. I am unable to at all so that in itself impresses me ALOT. Choosing colors is challenging. this is where I usually lean on the people in a LQS or mimic a pattern.

I'd love to take a nap, under that! It's lovely!!! What you find dull, I find relaxing. :)

I love the Drunkards Path pattern. I think your quilt is very pretty. However, if you think it is too bland, I agree with Tartan that you could use it as a base for a large applique of some sort. Maybe a deep purple Iris. That would work wonderfully with your shades of blue. But, if it were mine, I'd keep it as it is---soft, and inviting! Thanks for sharing.

Someone will absolutely love this quilt once it's completed. Monotone can be calming. I made a really colorful and beautiful quilt, but found out I really prefer calmness in my bedroom so I cannot use this quilt in my room because the colors gives off a feeling of excitement and movement. Therefore, my granddaughter scored and she was so happy to get it. I think the key here will be the quilting. It can turn out really well in spite of not having too much contrast. I still make mistakes at times when selecting fabric. Sometimes I think this and that fabric will work out and when I make the first couple of squares, it doesn't turn out quite as I had expected. Remember, every quilt is a lesson. Don't give up.

How about some glitzy thread for the quilting?

winia 07-24-2012 03:33 AM

I happen to love bright colors. The more primary they are, the more I love them. However, not everyone in this
world is me. There are people who love pastels more than they love bright colors. Someone who loves pastels
will think this quilt is stunning. To each his or her own. That's what makes the world go around.

I agree. I made one I thought was not so great but the recipient loved it.

The very thing that you don't like about the quilt will be perfect for someone else. Many people like soft, calm, subtle colors and designs. Regardless, very nice job.
