I think I found a Singer class 15 from 1951. The serial number is AK511358. Does that look right? It needs some electrical help, like a new plug/cord,and a good cleaning, but I want to tackle it. It was too pretty to pass up. I hope I can do it justice!

Got to Singer Sewing Machine serial Numbers on Google and you can find the year it was made. I just found mine on there and it was made in 1893. It is a Singer Treadle that belong to my Mother-in-Law. It still sews.

I, too, learned on a Singer like this -- believe it was from the 30's, belonging to my maiden aunt who lived with us. She herself taught me. Later, she sold it to my mother when she got a cabinet model, and years later, after mom had a stroke, my dad got it cleaned & repaired, and gave it to me for Christmas. I still use it for most of my sewing. Doesn't sew backward, nor any fancy stitches. It just sews forward, with any size thread and any needle -- and does that eminently well!

Aren't these old machines just wonderful! The stories they could tell... I wish I could hear them all!
