Antique crazy quilt
4 Attachment(s)
Yesterday at the museum, I spotted this beautiful crazy quilt folded and draped over a spinning wheel tucked behind one of the decorated trees. I asked the museum manager and he looked up the information on it. It was made circa 1890 and was found in the home of a Sara McCall. It is in fair condition with some bare spots. Just gorgeous!

Oh my. Isn't that wonderful? I have a friend who owns one and it is framed and she has a temp controlled room for it and a very old grand piano.

Can you just imagine all the work that went into that one? Beautiful, thanks for sharing.

Yes, a thing of beauty. And it is in wonderful condition. I was at a local antique store recently and one of the dealers had one displayed, but the silks and satins in it were faded or just threads, but the embroidery stitches were still good...I was tempted, but walked away after looking at it for a long time...
the women who made these were more the upper class, so to speak, who had "staff" to do the mundane things like cleaning and cooking and minding their children, while they sat in their lovely gowns doing this beautiful handwork...at least that's what I have read..... |
Thanks for sharing!
