My great grandmother pieced this quilt in the 1930s in Indiana. I am now hoping to finish it but would like to have more information before I begin. If anyone recognizes it, I would be deeply appreciative.

Beautiful! What a treasure!

On pg. 3 of "849 Traditional Patchwork Patterns" by Susan Winter Mills it is called Box and Star. Hope this helps you. It is a beautiful quilt and a treasure to have.
Hi again--Also found the pattern in Maggie Malone's book "5500 Quilt Block Designs" on pg. 350. It has several names to numerous to list.
Oh my, don't you just love that 3o's green? I wonder if there is a good reproduciton of that color.
Great looking quilt. What a treasure. It will be a loving expereince and connection to grt grandmother when you are working on that! How fun. |
It's also known as Garden Star. As with most older blocks it has several names.
It's truly beautiful -- and a wonderful treasure! :D
Oh My, your 'Grandmother' hand stitched a beautiful quilt - Enjoy finishing your heirloom. Let us see the finished quilt.

No idea, but I like it!
I went upstairs and looked in one of my very old pattern books and it is closest to the Bethlehem star because it has the hexagon center. Which was almost exact to this block. A search on line resulted with the closest I could see was a star of david block.
My grandmother also made one like this. It is very interesting isn't it? I think like someone else said, it depends on which area you come from what the name of it is. |
It sure is pretty! What a treasure you have there! Would love to see a photo of the entire quilt once you finish it. :)
What a treasure! Memories too.
I've also seen it call Missouri Daisy somewhere..lol
PRETTY!! I have no idea on a name though, so I'd just call it PRETTY!!
Wow, love the quilt, thanks for sharing!
Thank you all for the wonderful advice and sources to follow-up on. I will certainly post a picture when it is finished but it may take a while as I am very new to this.
The picture is very true to the green. And a nice match to the blinds in my spare bedroom completely by chance.

Judy Martin calls it "Texas Star"
Reminds of a form of Grandmothers Flower Garden but have no idea if that even comes close to what your pattern is. :)
It is very pretty.
That pattern is called morning star and in Texas we call it a Texas star. Kate
what a treasure and a legacy!
It looks like SEVEN SISTERS.

Beautiful quilt! I have always known it as texas star pattern.
that is so neat. sorry I can not help you. Penny
This pattern could be 7 sisters.6 diamond shapes making a star plus a center star. The center hexagon is probably appliqued on. These diamond shaped pieces could also make tumbling blocks.
Very nice! What a treasure. Enjoy working on it and thinking of your great grandmother. Don't forget your label!!
I'm getting ready to add (very gently) a label to a grandmother's flower garden quilt made by my grandmother pre-1950 (had to ask my aunt when my gm quit quilting). Someday my kids will care to know that. :-) |
What a lovely "gift" from your great grandmother.
The book cover looks like a match for your pattern ~if I can only find the book at garage sale prices!
