My mom's neighbor gave these things to me. I believe they may have belonged to her mother. In the first photo, I know the thing on the left is a tatting shuttle but what is the thing on the right and what is it for? In the bottom photo, anyone know what these are? They came in a box of crochet hooks.

I think the middle one in the bottom photo is for lace making.
Could the one on the right be for latch hook?

top two look like there off weaving machine, one on bottom right looks like old button hook I think the other two are for weaving also

Topo left is a tatting shuttle Bottom right is a button hook that they used to help button their shoes.

You're right, in the top photo, the one on the left is a tatting shuttle. The one on the right I would guess is a darning egg.
In the bottom photo, you have a sewing awl, a something or another that I *think* might be for weaving, and on the right you have a button hook for buttoning up those old fashioned boots from the 1800's...

I think the thing in the bottom photo, middle item, is actually something for making braided rugs. It needs to go between the braids, dragging some twine-type stuff with it to "lace" the braids together. If that's not what it's for, that's what I would use it for. :)

The one on the left is for making holes I believe. The one in the middle for lacing, and the one on the right is a button hoo, for the old button shoes I believe.

That was really nice of your neighbor.

The hook looks like my Great Grandma's button hook.

The top left is a tatting shuttle, the right one is for darning, and the bottom three are for lacemaking.

i agree.. tatting shuttle, darning egg, awl, drop spindle and button hook.

after you research them, you'll need a nice little shelf to display them on.

frivolite - A kind of a lace from thin threads

wolfkitty 09-18-2010 08:30 PM

It looks very similar to tatting. Is frivolite different?

elena 09-18-2010 09:26 PM

No, it is a lace kind.

Here we call this tatting. I have a couple of silver tatting shuttles in my things I found along the way collection. I don't tat, but love the look and know people who do.
