Ok, right now Rob, my DH is doing his best (??) Bob Dylan imitation! cool art quilt and however did you come up with painting the bat? You are so darn creative!

Bob Dylan CD played in my sewing room today......How ironic! Your art quilts are always so interesting. Looks like a lot of work. And the puckers and painted batting is a new twist. Very cool....

Dylan, of course! Love your work Rob, so very imaginative!

same question as mine...I’ve never heard of painting batting but I like the effect it gives to your art panel.

The idea for painting the batting came from Heather Thomas over on National Quilter’s Circle. I saw her do it with smaller pieces a few years ago and they really looked neat. I do it a little differently than she does.. but still same idea. I use artist acrylics that I thin down using a special flow medium so they are about the consstency of dyes. To get the shading effects I use a variety of different colors mixed together in a container and squish the batting into it. Leaving the batting squished on a table to dry allows the paint to migrate in intersting ways. I’ll try to remember to post a tutorial next week after things settle down here.

What a unique piece Rob. I like the batting framing it.

That's a neat piece! Fun that you added fabrics from your grandma too. The dyed batt sounds interesting! :)
