Ok, here are my attic windows so far. I want to put sashing on them. My mind has gone blank. How do I sew the sashing on. On the bottom of each block first or on the sides of each block first ... or does it matter. Thanks!

Beautiful. Thank you for sharing it with us. I have no idea but I love those colors. Someone will be along shortly to help.

won't sashing take away from the 3-d effect of the windows? maybe not - just found this post with sashing.....http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-82544-1.htm If you want to see some others, click Home above, then Pictures, then Gallery of Quilts - then attic windows.

I would sew the sashing on the sides first. You have 8 blocks so you would sew a piece to the right of 7 of those blocks and then attach the 8 blocks where there is no sashing on either end. This would give you 8 blocks and 5 pieces of sashing. Do each row this way then cut long strips of sashing and sew the rows together with these and leave the top and bottom with no sashing at present.. Then cut the sashing for the 2 sides & sew them on, now cut the top and bottom sashing & sew that on. Hope this is clear.

I agree with frarose EXCEPT I think you would sew the sashing to the LEFT side of each block. The last row, row 8 would have it's right edge up against the border. The sashing serves as trim up against the window and to keep perspective correct it should be on the left. Right?

That would work but I just like putting mine in between first and leaving both side without sashing so that I can use a long strip :) I believe when you are finished the sashing will be all around the windows.

So, I would sew sashing on each of 7 on the black of each block, not sewing on the one to the far left.
Then one long row of sashing between each row
then one on each side and one on the top and one on the bottom.

Right?
