Love your idea of making "shutters"!

Chose a simple block to make in the colors from the quilt and put them in rows down each side of the quilt. The motion of Tradewinds might compliment the motion of the waves. I used Tradewinds in my wildlife Attic Windows, but mine was much busier and scrappier.

a very pretty quilt

Hang it at the window and use it for curtains. I have always wanted to do that.

If you are going to have it on a bed the way the picture shows you could even go a little on the 'cute' side and frame the top with a "topper" like its a window you're looking out of, and do the bottom so it looks like the top part of a sofa with a cat laying on it looking 'outside'. Frame the sides like its drapes hanging or window trim and you've got an unusual version of attic windows....great job!

I just made one and to make the size I needed, I added a solid border all around, 6" on top and bottom and 10" on each side.

This is just sew very cool! I love the different effects with the moon and different features in the sky. Not sure how you should finish it, but had to tell you how much I love it. Please post when finished.

I think I will try to make a piece of a shutter to start and put it up there and see what I think with some plain strips on the other side. I got distracted by my Quilts for quilters swap quilt though (it kind of took over when I wasn't looking :) ) so maybe sometime this week I'll go get a couple more pieces of fabric (who knew sashing could eat so much material :p ) I will post pics when I get a bit of it together |
I'm wondering if you mis-wrote the dimentions. You have a 4 block x 6 block top. Are the blocks about 15" or 12 "??
If you have any fabric left, I would make another block, detach one row from the long side, unstitch the blocks and re stitch in the proper orientation, add the extra block and then add it to the narrow side. Now you would have a top that is 5 blocks x 5 blocks--much easier to work with. Now the top would be approx 77x77 or 62x62--depending on what size the origional blocks are. |
It's 4x7 blocks, and the blocks are 13" and I used every bit of fabric :). It is very long!
