I "designed" it myself. Although you can hardly tell in the picture, the window frames are actually two different shades of beige (lighter on the vertical than on the horizontal). I'll attach a close-up that might make it more clear. It helps give it the three-dimensional look. I had taken a workshop on mitered corners...but there are links online to doing them. OR you could use straight strips with a half-square triangle in the corner, although it might not look as smooth. These beige frames were made from 2.5" strips. I used 1.5" strips for the dark brown sashing, then the first border was also 1.5". The light flange border was a 3/4" strip, folded lengthwise, pressed, and sewn between that and the outer border (wanted it really narrow). I think the outer border was cut 3.5" (should have written it down). I definitely think the design would work with any number of panes that suits your background scene. One thing I could have done differently would be to use a wood-grain-look fabric for the frames, or possibly quilt in some wood grain design. I think it ended up about 36" x 48". Thank you all for your compliments! Close-up, prior to quilting Before quilting |
