It was really easy to make.
Simple log cabin pattern. Then I found a leaf shape I really liked
Fused heat n bond on some beautiful fall batiks and placed in random array and then machine appliqued.
Same with the tree in the center block.

Gorgeous quilts

ccthomas 02-06-2011 07:23 AM

Beautiful. You can almost hear the leaves in the breeze. Smell the fall in the air. Love the "tree of life" center.

Katrine 02-06-2011 07:34 AM

That is one beautiful quilt, lovely design. And the quilting really enhances it. Well done both!

Baloonatic,
What I did was searched Google images for "leaf clipart". I scrolled through pages until I found a shape I really liked.
I printed out the image so it would fit onto a 5"x5" square. Cut the leaf shape from the printout.
Then I fused heat-n-bond lite onto squares from a charm pack of the Fall Batiks I had purchased at Connecting Threads.
Placed the paper cut out of the leaf onto the fusible paper side and traced around the leaf.
Cut the leaves from the charm square.
I then took a fabric marker and drew veins on the leaves.
I did the same with the stems. Fused heat n bond onto dark brown fabric only I freehand cut those (no template)
Now they are ready to be fused onto quilt. I appliqued using a straight stitch about 1/8" from edge of leaves. Then I stitched on the "veins" I had drawn.

Easy process! but time consuming for me.
If I could do free motion I would have stitched the leaves and veins that way,
but I just had to stitch slow and had to rotate the quilt top a LOT! There were a lot of curves on those leaves!
(maybe if I ever do those again I will choose a leaf that isn't as intricate....

Gorgeous colors.

alaskasunshine 02-06-2011 10:10 AM

Sooo Gorgeous both the quilt and the quilting :D What kind of thread did u use to stitch the "veins" on your leaves? It looks thick and I like that look! Maybe it is just the close up :? Loved it on Charismah's pages and love it on your page. Perfect quilting to finish off your lovely quilt!!!

sik1010 02-06-2011 10:19 AM

Just used Guttermann (all purpose) thread.
I stitched UP each vein and back so it is "doubled" stitched.

The quilting is hard to see in the full view photos but it is absolutely GORGEOUS!!
I had originally made binding in a dark brown but after I started to attach it didn't really care for the way it looked.
Thoughtit detracted from the beauty of the quilt.
So I had some orange left over from piecing the back and tried that.
I LIKED IT A LOT BETTER!

Beautiful-----------the leaves look real
