This is made with all flannel, it's so soft. Wish I knew how to applique, a brown giraffe would have been pretty

That is so cute. I love the little pictures and other things in the little square.

That's adorable! I think applique with flannel might be difficult, though I've never tried it.

applique is soooo easy. I think easier than piecing. I took a class yrs ago, she made it so hard. I finally decided to wing it and it's ooo sooo easy, practice on a pc of scrap, start straight, try on of your fancy stitches and go from thre. raw edge is even easier use wonder under, or heat and bond, my favorite. instructions on the paper.

quilt came out cute. love to see boyish things

Applique. can be done several ways. The method I use is done with fusible webbing, like Heat n Bond. Yes, you can use flannel. A few years ago, I did a baby quilt, appliqued in all flannel using fusible webbing. After I fused the pieces down, I went over the figures with matching thread using a blanket stitch. The previous host of About Quilting.com had posted patterns for a circus theme quilt, consisting of the tent, clowns, zebra, elephan, seal and giraffe. I gave it to a couple for their first baby. You could still add a large giraffe over the whole quilt in brown and it would be very cute. Don't let flannel scare you!

This is the tutorial that helped me the most.

I do find it works better for me to turn the sewing machine by hand. You get much better control that way. If you can't draw a giraffe find one that you can copy.
Don't be afraid to try applique. It doesn't have to be hard.
