Nice quilt and good job of laying out the colors, really like the cat logo at the bottom............... cool idea!

I am actually thinking of making a miniature version of it and start sewing into all my quilts, as a hidden signature mark that way if one of my quilt labels were to disappear off of a quilt, the owner would still be able to identify it as a quilt I made, or I would be able to identify it as my work. The one in this quilt was purposely put in there to stand out. I wanted to put more in there or quilt the entire quilt with them but I decided it would take too long and I wanted it done so I could use it sooner.

I recently posted a picture of a doll that I made that under the title "What I do when I am not quilting...humoring friends". Immediately after I got that doll finished, I started a quilt for ME. I have been quilting roughly 16 - 17 years now and have never made myself a quilt....until this weekend. Its done and its mine. Im keeping it. I promise. I am really happy with how it turned out. I was inspired by the jelly race quilts I have been seeing so I came up with a little something of my own. It was made with 1 1/2" finished strips and overall measures 55 x77....just big enough for me to curl up under while watching a movie. I had my two youngest sons layout the color placement. There are 4 strips each of the 10 colors, so they both got to do two sets, my only request was that they didn't follow the same pattern as the first set as I wanted it to be somewhat random. I machine quilted in just a few hours. My avitar is also used as my signature block on my quilts. On this quilt, I sewed my fatsew cat into the lower corner. I am still going to put a signature block on the back with the date and location of where it was made, just like I would with any other quilt I make. Thanks for looking and sharing your thoughts on my very first quilt. Now, Im off to watch a movie and test it out.

Its a very beautiful quilt,a lovely way to use small strips and left overs from all the other ones.I made my niece a quilt for christmas and used some fabric from her other quilt I made in 2001 I don't throw out to much around here.I can always use them in other quilts or wall hangings.

I'd say it's about time you made one for yourself. Nice work. And I hope you enjoyed the movie.

This would a great quilt for an 8 yr to work on and yet there is still so much one could with it. It was one of the easiest and quickest ones I have made.

Love it and the "fatso catso" quilted into it.

chermitch 01-14-2012 04:52 PM

I'm glad you finally did one for yourself!!!!!We all need our own quilt!!! I love it because it's so very colorful!!!! Was it hard to piece with the uneven strips?

quiltingcandy 01-14-2012 04:57 PM

Ir is absolutely wonderful. But what I thought when I first saw it before I read your notes, it reminded me of how elementary kids stack their library books. Your fat cat really adds the extra touch.

NO it was not hard at all. I just pieced a 22"-ish piece of white and a 22"-ish piece of color into a big circle and than randomly cut it somewhere in the white which created one long strip. After I had all my strips cut out, I sewed them together and squared it off before putting the borders on. Was actually the quickest and probably most simple quilt I have ever done.

Thank you for the compliments. Jenga and stacked books are two of the things I thought it looked like but for some reason I just keep calling it "My Stripes" so that is what I will probably put on the label.
