I was in the mood to make bags this week and then the news had an item about charging for plastic bags at the markets. So I got busy. I had some old fabric given to me so I went to town to be prepared the next time I shop....

Those are so pretty. You did a great job making them!! :D
Now you are ready to go shopping. Thank you for sharing. Cheryl :D :D :D |
Those are nice bags. Must be Bag Season... Joann's has/had Simplicity patterns on sale for 99 cents so I got 6 handbag patterns and, of course, each one has several variations.
I'm in the process of making the first one for my daughter. |
Love your bags -- especially the blue one :-)
Very cute bags!!! Seattle is going to charge for plastic bags too!! I have purchased a couple, and I am crocheting some too!!
My questions is what the heck am I going to use for cleaning out the kitty box with if I don't have the plastic grocery bags anymore!!!??? |
Great job! Cute!
Very cute! Somewhere recently I read to make them using home dec fabric - sturdier. I suppose you could also use tapestry for something unique.
Very cute. I hope to make some, eventually. ;D
Those are very nice!! I love the daisey one...I had a dress made of VERY similiar fabric that mom made me when I was little!
Your bags are so cute!

I can't pick a favorite they are both great!! Good for you, now you just have to get in the habit of taking them with you and taking them in the store. That was the hardest part for me :( then remember to take them back out to the car when you unload them.
You are right,Sharon. I am having a hard time remembering them so I need to put them in the FRONT seat when I shop. With these, I can keep a good supply in the car.

:D :D :D You caught me, Lisa! These fabrics were from a very old stash, but you can't be that old, can you??? LOL

Yes, these fabrics are a heavier weight than quilting cotton. The home decor stuff is great for these bags.

Great job! I made one and was given one free from the supermarket. Now if I can just remember to take the with me!
Oh aren't those colorful! Very nice judee.
Gosh does anyone remember when we used to crochet with the wonder bread plastic bags that you cut into strips? They were open weave kinda like the old market bags from long ago. I am thinking to try and find some tent type fabric so they will be lighter weight and I can stuff them easier into a small size to carry. I have some tote bags in my car now. They are much heavier than the tent plastic ones I want to make. I think they call it rip-stop?? |
You are going green in style. Great job.
Very cute and Green. They look great.
Those are so cute---they might actually make grocery shopping fun!!
I keep a couple small boxes - one in the trunk of the car, one in the kitchen. When I go shopping, if I forget to bring some, I use the ones in the trunk. When I get home, I replace the trunk box with the one in the kitchen.
Those are so cute!!! I love them, they are so handy and make it easier hauling heavier items :D :D I hated it when I was half way up the stairs and the canned food bag would split open :x :x
love the bag especially the daisy one :-)
what pattern do you use to make your bags?
they are really cute  |
There are a variety of patterns out there for green bags. Just Google Grocery Bag patterns and you will find loads. I ended up making my own. Very simple.
Enjoy! judee |
Those are really cute!!!!
You'll still be able to buy small plastic bags like Glad.
I cut apart a brown paper bag and used it for a pattern :D :D :D
Very nice.

When I was in Italy, visiting my son and family, I discovered that they have always had to pay for their bags if they don't bring their own with them. As soon as I got back home, I set to work making them a bunch of bags in various prints I had on hand. Most of them were from Joann's deco remnants. Now my d.i.l. says she even uses them for diaper bags, beach bags, etc. Next time I go over I'm going to add some interior pockets to a couple of them which I didn't think of before. I'm going to make a few for me, too. The last person I ever think of ... LOL 8)
